I thought I would reload better pics of the Stratopartster body, taken in sunlight and after having been sanded with 60, 80, 120, 220 grit paper with the orbital..

Nice. Is this considered Maple Flame?

It's actually more like Tiger Maple, Flame Maple is like the pic I posted of the Fender Wallpaper
Tele a page or so back.

Telepartster is underway, the body was unclamped.....

Image

Image

Next was to square up the blank by recutting all Four sides/edges...
Small cuts, just enough to square it up.
Then I replaned the top to flat level, resanded and finished it off ready for redrawing the outline from the template.

Image

Image

Ready to go, it has been outlined with the template and about to be cut on the bandsaw.
This was easier than the Maple Stratopartster as this Telepartster blank is just about 1-7/8" thick whereas the Maple Stratopartster is 2-1/4" Thick. ( which I'll explain a bit later )

Image

This is not to difficult, but going slow is key, the bandsaw blade has a tendency to deflect from cutting straight so feeding the stock has to be into the cutting teeth and not pushed to the right or left. Basically cut while putting as little deflecting pressure on the blade as possible.

Image

Done.... Now cut to rough outline ( cut and leave the pencil mark ) it will be smoothed out later with the template and the router....

Image

Image

Image

I was a bit concerned as once again the edges of the blank ( before cutting the outline) showed some gap but that was due to a bit of slipping with either the planer or the sander or both when dressing the edges.

Next was the router phase for this blank. Clamped tight to both the work table and the template.
Same router bits as with the Stratopartster Blank....

Image

Image

Image

Had a minor problem, actually 2...The 1st, my template moved as I was rounding off the top horn/curve, which necessitated that I realigned the template to blend in and remove where the router bit had gouged in about 3/16th" ....

Image

Image

The next problem was not as pleasant and is called Tearout, which happens when the router blade is cutting in the same direction as the grain but into it instead of with it.
So I had to reset the template in order to blend in the mistake. I still will have to probably fill in the bit of tear out in the center section which was the Maple strip...
I didn't take a pic but will and edit it in later.

A few pics of the two bodies side by side....

Image

Image

This is what the final guitars will look like when completed ( neck and body )

First the Stratopartster....I definitely will be completing this one with a 70's style neck, maple fingerboard and the hardware will be gold which will work out great for the Cherry Sunburst or
Tobacco Sunburst finish...

Image

Image

And now the Telepartster......I almost wish this neck was a rosewood or ebony neck but that can always be interchanged in the distant future as I find another Fender Deluxe neck but with a rosewood fingerboard.

Image

Image

Image

Voila for Now....Next is figuring out the layout for the hardware and electronics so it's back to making some templates.....And scouting around for the neck and hardware needed...

Hmmmmm....The Tear-out and the slip of the template when routing definitely gave a Homer Simpson moment....( audio has been edited due to ratings )..

It's all part and parcel of woodworking, it sometimes doesn't go according to expectations and the trick is if you can cleverly cover up the mistakes.....

Thanks Again...

Here is the damning illustration of the Gaffes.....

First the tear out, which has been recontoured but will still need filling with wood putty or I'll just make some up with maple sander dust and titebond. It's actually difficult to match wood color with any of the woodfillers and less of a headache to mix your own...

Image

Which is what I did for the center section on the back of the body, I thought I had it clamped correctly but when clamping, both the Center Strip and the Top and Bottom Halves have to be clamped separately and that required spacers but......
So this will cure in about 24 hours or so and should be almost invisible...

Image

Same on the tail end just a small 1 or 2 mm spot..

Image

On the front neck body pocket sections also, But I'm suspecting that this will be routed out by the depth of the pocket....If Not..We Have Ways....

53 Magna.
Does the hole filler substance absorb paint & stain in such
a way that it is obvious, and can cause an underneath blemish?

Ahh... :!: One other quick update, I mentioned earlier how the Stratopartster Body was 2-1/4" thick whereas the actual finished body will be about 1-3/4" thick....

Since this is all a rear loaded body, for pickups and controls, I will need to have back plates made up for the cavities...Maple backplates from another piece of stock will look out of place....sort of but, much better than any plastic back plate I could make up...

But optimal will be back control cavity plates made from the same piece of wood as the back section that will be routed out...This why the 2-1/4" thickness, I will run the entire body blank thru a bandsaw and thereby cut a slice about an 1/8th" thick which will match exactly where the cavities are...

Image

But I'll have to go and either ask my neighbor at his wood shop or go see Matt D'ambrosio in Pawtucket since both have bandsaws with a large enough jaw to accommodate a 12-3/4" cut...

Stain it will, but no paint in these Builds, Stain only on the Stratopartster, then clear.
The Telepartster is a clear finish all around, but the clear finish will darken the Walnut and I will have to test on a spare piece to see what will be needed for finish...

This isn't for quite some time as I have to layout the hardware, routing templates and all.
