  DONE :!:

Copper shielding is usually not too bad. On this build it was problematic to apply.
Once I peeled off the backing off of the copper sheet, I found that the adhesive was shot. Not only that but it would not stick to the inside of the cavities....
So I went out and bought a can of Loctite spray adhesive  It refused to be compatible with the lacquer that was sprayed on the inside of the cavities.
Plus it began to soften and dissolve the lacquer... I had some on the body and it made a mess.

Scratch that idea, I was able to neutralize it, clean up the damaged area and spot repair with a couple passes of lacquer. Crisis solved ... Or so I thought

To not have this happen again I applied blue painters tape all aver the backside of the body to protect.
That worked ..... Or Maybe Not :!:

Image

In the meantime I went back to return the incompatible Loctite adhesive then to Lowes and bought a small bottle of Welwood contact cement. What I had counted on for the Loctite was the ability to place and replace the copper before the adhesive set.
Contact cement does not offer that. Its apply to both surfaces to be joined, wait about 10-15 minutes than place. But if you don't align it exactly you will not peel it back off without either damaging the copper or making a surrounding mess. If it even wants to be peeled off. ( I have done many kitchen countertops so I knew what to expect )
Solution was to apply in smaller pieces.

Or so I thought :?: .... Peeling off the blue tape it left residue ( not supposed to ) but I thing it was because my tape is a year old. It definitely has a shelf life which doesn't matter when applied over latex paint in a house but on the lacquer it didn't want to play.
So more clean up, but no damage to the finish ....

Image

So that is it for the copper shielding application misadventure.....

Next is installing pots, wiring, solder 8) hardware, neck, strings.......

And the Leffe Belgian Ale was well earned at 2am this morning.... 8)

One added pic is of the ground connection underneath the bridge. Folded up copper with the wires strand splayed out inside the folded copper.

Progress today is filled with anticipation since It definitely is almost time for the fat lady to sing...

The next pic is from earlier today. In routing all the wiring thru I needed to change the pathway.
Initially all 3 pup wiring were going straight back towards the bridge pup cavity then into the control cavity.
It was cleaner to drill a new hole and route the neck and mid pup from the mid pup cavity into the control cavity.
I also did not have enough space between the bridge pup height adjustment system and where I located the hole for the wiring. ( an oversight  ) So I sent the bridge pups wiring into the mid pup cavity and straight into the control cavity with the other two sets of wiring.

Image

In the next pic, all the wiring is in place and ready to be stripped and soldered... Above the 1st tone pot ( middle tone pot ) I screwed in a vintage string retainer into the copper and cavity wall. This will be the grounding point.
Because I applied copper to all the cavities, in the control I will not need to run a ground wire connecting all three pots. They are connected by resting on the copper foil.... 8)
The 20 gauge yellow wire is the ground wire that runs underneath the bridge.

Here is another tease shot of everything in place except knobs and 5 way switch tip and bridge hardware..

Bit of a hold up yesterday, work commitments pulled me away..... Then had to resolve a G.A.S. issue, hence completed  Spent a bit of time getting to know the new framily member. 8)

This is the hold up....

They are both MIM's. The older one is from 1998, bought that about 1-1/2 years ago. The other is a 2015 Fender Special Edition or Release. They are only similar in looks. The new one is much more of a classic 60's Strat sound, a fatter neck more reminiscent of my Custom Shop NOS 56. Not that big of a neck but definitely old school. The 2015 has a thick trem block. I have not had a chance to open it up and look inside but someday. Not that important...
The neck is what sold me on buying it. I was going to cannibalize it and use it for the Stratopartster Build.
But this guitar plays and sounds so nice that I would be insulting Fender and especially the people who put this one together. I did however make a minor change. Grover locking strap ...
So since I have not bought a new ( per-se ) guit-fiddle in ages... I always prefer to look for 2nd hand... The shelter is full of adoptable one's who are just asking for a chance to sing .....

This Telepartster I is completely wired up.

I tried to be as neat as possible as this control cavity was a bit smaller than on a Stratiocaster, but definitely larger than a Tele's.....
Next is to attach the neck, pot knobs and switch tip. Pup springs and adjustment screws and then the covers. screw on the hardware to the bridge, string her up, adjust all the saddles and then ..       8)

Ha .. Ha .. Thanks Doc.
I promise the next one will not take as long to complete.... So I just finished playing it for the last 1-1/2 hours. I love it but I think I will undo " One " mod in the circuitry. I bridged the two middle terminals so that the tone control would affect the bridge Pup. But I' am suspecting that this mod does not work as well with these Texas Specials RW/RP. I do like their tonality, clear but with enough grunge to sound serious..
We'll see after undoing the bridge. It is just a wire and 2 solder points.
I will edit and comment on the pics of the completed Telepartster I later ..

But first I'm going out for a beer .... Well earned I hope .... 8)

Thank You Rkreisher and Danagos...

I'm quite happy with this 1st one, as i may have hinted I do have a couple of details to address on this particular guitar but overall I'm pleased that it turned out well..

I felt the Stratocaster case in either tweed or the one in brown just didn't fit as well as this. I originally ( 2 weeks ago bought the black case for the mim FSE black Strat that I posted earlier. At $500 it doesn't even come with a gig bag :? from GC... But anyway now I will think about the other 4 builds.

As far as this Telepartster I... I wasn't sure about the Texas Specials at first but I had wired them up incorrectly. They are very different sounding than my 1998 black mim Strat, my 2001 Deluxe mim with SCN , the new 2015 black mim FSE and also the 1st Stratopartster I and II.
I suspect the walnut and maple neck also brightens the Texas Specials. It's a clear clean twangy sound which has had me playing country and country rock these last couple of days...
Which proves that sometimes the right guitar will lead you in a completely different musical road.

I will say that I would like to repeat this guitar again but with a rosewood or ebony neck and perhaps a set of Lace sensors or SCN's ?? or perhaps even a set of 54's...
Then again I could do the Texas Specials again but this time around the Telecaster Burton pups.. 8)
