I have been an amatuer self taught guitar player for over 30 yrs. only playing ocassoinally. My first was a 81 STRAT SPECIAL that I paid $1,100 at the time . played like a dream. Times got tough and I sold it for $600. Several years went by and I bought a MIJ MODEL for $400. My daughter got it from me , she wanted to learn and I never played. So guess who got it ? Later I found out it had a 57 neck on it . Oh well. I recently retired and decided to buy me a good guitar and amp once and for all . I wound up buying an American Deluxe Standard with the ash body and a fender twin reverb 65 RI My question is to some one who is very knowledgable about these things. It is simply did I do right? Ithought about the EC model for $200 more and was thinking about the Vox ac30 BRIAN MAY model. please tell me what I did wrong or right!

Thanks

i think you should be fine with that current set up, especially if only playing in the house in in smaller venues.... the deluxe standard is a finely made guitar and the amp should pack more than enough punch for just practicing and such

I just bought a am deluxe myself. I had a white strat in the earlt 70's,,sold it for a jazz bass, played that a few years , sold it and got a black strat,,sold it(money was tight). I blue printed the strat and made one myself. Aircraft aluminum hand carved neck, african body, all done by me. The pickups-shector, and 3 toggle switches. Each one for on/off/reverse polarity. I finished it in 78 and I still have it. I broke down and got the deluxe and I am well satisfied with the guitar and sounds. I figure at 56 years old and have been playing for years,, it's my turn to have something. I back it up with a twin amp, guild 12-string, les paul studio, and double-neck 6-12. My next venture is a deluxe jazz bass. A fender guitar thru any fender amp is a matched set-up. Fender soesn't make one without consulting the other.

dvantine, sounds like you and me have been down the same old roads. I also am 56 years old (just an old hippie) and it is about time we enjoy ourselfs. I wish I had a collection like yours although I do have a new acoustitonic 2 sfx amp with a j-185 ec Gibson acoustic that I love. I once owned a 60's model silvertone with amp in case and a 65fender mustang/silvertone amp with reverb and trem. BUT.! If only I had kept all my equipment (including effect racks) etc. It would be nice.

Thanks for reply.
KEEP ON ROCKIN!!!!

sounds like an amazing combo with the sparkling of the twin and the deep growl of the deluxe, i would think they compliment nicely. if anything the amp might be overkill since that is one hell of an amp, it is ferociously loud for playing at home but hey, if you got it then why not buy the best? as far as quality, the deluxe is as nice as any guitar fender makes and nicer than most and i dont know anything about how the twin reissues are made or anything about modern fender amps, but i have always wanted a twin. rock on!!

I also decided I wanted a nice rig & I too am self taught, I'm not retired yet, but I am getting close, I don't "play out"...... I'm in it for the fun ...... I play at home, playing and singing for family......this is what I went with. I think you made a very good choice, both pieces are of excellent quality and your going to get some really good tone as well. 8)
