Thanks guys, I msged the seller on Ebay asking for a serial number and got told he "couldn't find it"

As for why I only asked when it's close to finishing... I only found it when I searched recently :)

As I read your replies I planned to report the seller but it's already been done.

Edit: Actually I guess I should report it since I have a reply from the seller refusing to give the serial number. Done!

Cheers again but it's still running so hopefully Ebay get to it before it closes and someone gets ripped off :(

LT.

It does seem that the fakes are getting better and better ... that's worrisome.

No need to mention what's wrong (we don't want "them" to fix their errors)!

Not kidding, it is a fake. And it is not an 11 inch model either, it's a full sized fake.

I like how in the description, it say's they're selling another guitar for a friend.

Here is a rough side by side of the Ebay Strat, a MIA and a MIM.

I agree Orville. I personally think that's a great looking guitar, and looking at how well that fake is presented for sale, you just know that it has the potential to easily fool a casual buyer. Someone maybe looking to buy their first Fender guitar.

The message is clear. Unless it's an ultra rare instrument - in which case a buyer will almost certainly know what they're doing - that's unavailable anywhere else, buy from a dealer. Somebody has tried to save themselves a couple of hundred dollars, but have landed themselves with a turkey on the wrong side of xmas. If it's a beginner that picked it up, they might not realise how dodgy it is for years..

The side-by-side pic is great -- easy to see the too wide spacing of the 12th fret dots.

I like the sellers comment.

"I have been asked quite a few times where this guitar is made? To save answering multiple requests - The head stock reads that it is made in USA."

Oh Dear.
