Hi all,

I'm looking at buying a Fender Strat online which the seller claims is made in the USA. I've asked the seller for the serial number but in the meantime I wondered if anyone could eyeball a couple of pics and see if it looks like a genuine or not. I've Googled pics of a genuine USA Strat and there are quite a number of different headstocks, etc. I also read the link to a post here on how to identify which is why I signed up and am asking :) Anyway any suggestions or help would be appreciated. Should I also ask for a pic of the "underside" of the headstock - would that provide more evidence either way? Thanks.

Thanks again!

I'd steer clear of that guitar, for starters I'd expect to see the serial no. decalled on the back of the headstock and it's missing.

I have questions as far as the tuners, am I correct in seeing like a abalone or mop look on the back of the tuners..? I am not aware of Fender offering this kind of tuner....
Serial number is missing from back of headstock or neck plate
The contours of the back of the headstock look a bit too sharp.
The abalone dots on the rosewood neck suggest a Deluxe MIA but the other discrepancies give me pause.
If it is a Deluxe, the pups pole pieces should be staggered in height.

Overall there are too many questions..Unless you can actually see and play the guitar, confirm the serial # and the guitars origin.....I would pass...
It seems to me to be a higher end Squier being passed off as something else.. :?:

From what I can tell by the pictures, the pick guard screw by the switch isn't correct, the back of the tuners look like they have grey plastic caps, the truss rod hole doesn't have an insert. You might be better off finding another one.

The pickguard screw location is correct when you are looking at an 11 screw pickguard, it doesn't match if you are comparing it to a Vintage 8 screw pickguard..
But overall the pickguard is not an issue, the parts of the rest of the guitar are...

The truss rod on that neck is adjusted from the heel below the 21st fret...which says Vintage style which doesn't match the rest of the guitar...

As I said above.....Pass as it most definitely is not a Deluxe or for that matter an MIA....

No, the pick guard screw hole pattern on this guitar is like that of a Squier, not a standard 11-hole pattern. As pointed out, the screw right by the selector switch is to far up. This particular screw is lower on the real pick guards, directly beside the selector switch screw.

I agree, this is a Squier, or copy, with fake decal. Nothing US about it....maybe it was faked in the US. They even took the time to put a sticker about the Bullet strings (same as real one on back of guitar), on the pick guard where the real sticker would normally be. :(

Looks like it's from eBay in Australia. Been quite a few fakes from Australia lately.

Might turn up in a search if interested.

Why do we always get the auctions that are just about over?

I guess it's slightly better than; "I just bought it and...", but why wait til the last minute to ask about such things?

I sent the seller an email and reported the link.

Good job finding it somebizarredude.
