I love it! It's very useful for turning an HSS strat into something more David Gilmour.

overall i play in about two positions, bridge or neck... so a strat with just a bridge and a neck single coil would be sufficient for me...

though i would like a strat with a pickup switching system to give me various possibilities just for fun... but i doubt it'd get used much...

My guitar is a limited edition deluxe players w/ the s1 system... i've had it several months now, and I love the versatility of it. I've had zero noise, zero problems, and the tonal variation is marvelous!

I've got an American Deluxe with the S-1 and really liked the switching system, just didn't like the SCN pups. I've hardly played it since I bought an EJ strat last year. I should probably sell it, but then I'd be sad about the empty space it leaves in my Pile O'Guitars.

I like the S1. It doesn't sound *exactly* like a normal single coil Strat, though its pretty close. There is less "bite" on the treble. But if you want to lose the hum, this will do it. With the switch pressed in, it sounds more like a humbucker, but not as fat. But still good tone, not cheap. Also if you spring for the S1, you do get the Am Deluxe to go with it. Mine was perfect right from the store - straight, in-tune intonation, action just right. It plays silky smooth and I'm now a big fan of locking tuners. I should have got them on my PRS.

I have a 2004 Am HSS with S-1 that recently stopped working in the Neck+Middle in series position. I am a professional electronic technician and have isolated the problem to the S-1. Fender only supports the S-1 on an "in warrenty" instrument! Fender, please sell me a S-1 switch or I will rip it it out and replace it with a Deaf-Eddie switch.

It's all in the individuals opinion but personally nothing beats the neck pickup only for fat Fender tone. I really don't care for the S-1 switching. Works fine, just not my favorite tones come with it.

Why buy a guitar with the S1 switching if you don't like it. :?:
My Baja Tele has it and gives me more wonderfull tones then the
standard 3. Only if you look close at the volume knob you'll see it's
different, otherwise it looks like a 'normal' Tele/Strat.

I think it's cool to have but I don't like using it. With my current eq settings, hitting the S1 makes some very muddy tones. As far as why I bought my guitar... I love everything about my AmDlx V-neck. The S1 just happened to be installed. Having it installed or not wasn't an option.

In my limited exposure to it, I love the versatility it adds. The pickups really come to life and hit you in the face. Very cool.

That said, I'm more of a straight-forward player. I've got Vintage Noiseless pups in my strat, and I much prefer them over the "regular" sound of the SCNs. To me, the VNs have more character and sparkle.

Now if I could get the S-1 hooked in with my VNs, that could cool!

There is no reason to hate the S-1 switching since all of the conventional pickup selections are still there. It's great to have a classic instrument like a Strat while having a few new ways to pull fresh sounds from it.

I don't hate it, I just like the bridge and neck pickups by themselves best. Somebody who is looking for other tones would like it more. I thought I'd use it more when I bought my Deluxe than I do.
