So I punched the buy button on the Gilmour pickup set for my red Blacktop, even ordered a small tremolo arm. Got the pickup set installed last night, the Blacktop is a totally different animal now..

Gave it a test run in my Blues Deluxe Reissue and Mustang V and so far I like what I am hearing. I have had to switch all of my overdrive settings to a little less, because the pickups are over powering them but it has got some growl now. The cleans are like crystal shimmers with no noise at all.

I will try to get some sound bites up soon. Just on a whim I plugged it into my mixer for a listen in Propellerhead Reason 6's virtual Line 6 amp, WOW! Big difference in the headphones, this is going to be a blast...

It is taking some getting use to these things. The new pickups just want to be loud and I am having to lower the volume on all of my pedals to get them at a tolerable level in my small studio. Still trying to dial in a good tone through my tube amps and big muff at lower volumes. I plugged straight into my Mackie 1620i and ran it through the virtual Line 6 amps in my Reason 6, wow big difference in the headphones...

Sounds pretty decent with the high gain settings in my Mustang V and the cleans through my Blues Deluxe are kicking..

I still have to test my Blues Jr. and Vibro Champ XD...

I am so itching to get a Fulltone Fulldrive 2 Mosfet. Have you tried one of those with these pickups?

I think you have a little better rig than mine there
Nope mate, just tried the guitar with a POD HD for recording at the moment. I'm waiting to get a Marshall Class 5 as an amp, i had the Fender Mustang 1 (sold it) but this was before the EMG's

I had to edit all of my presets on the POD tho..since the sound of the guitar changed a lot. Btw, nice guitar, i love the C.A.R...you gonna keep this pearloid pickguard or you gonna change it in the future? I mounted a mint green on mine, so it retain a bit the "Blacktop" look, plus i changed all the knobs and switch tip with oem's Fender Aged white..it looks nice..

David's original CAR '57 Strat uses an 8-hole white pickguard.

You can put the 8-hole guard to make the guitar looking closer to David's red axe.

Did that back in '97 to natural finish American Standard with a rosewood neck. Guitar looked killer. Pulled out the center trem springs and put the battery back there.

I did a Jimmy Vaughn sig series in CAR with the DG-20 set up and love it. If your looking for some good setting for your amp and pedals check out www.gilmourish.com there is a section for settings on different albums and songs(Pulse Album will be very helpful) that will get you in the nieborhood for tone with the EMG's

I like that idea for the neck alone.

BTW......go to http://www.siglermusic.com and check out their inventory of loaded pickguards. Search 'pickups' on the home page and select 'all'. You'll get the entire inventory plus some pre-loaded guitars as well.
