Tom Wheeler's companion tome "Fender Amps - The Soul Of Tone" is also a great read. Most aficionados of Fender gear own them both.

I've ordered the strat book. Amps not so much.

I've been building valve amps for 20 years, most of the classic amps are pretty easy to understand and I'm not that interestered in the modern ones.

I am researching the strats because I plan to buy another one. If I want a new amp I just build what I want. I bought a marshall history some years back, but really never look at it anymore. I've got a plexi major among other things...don't use the factory built amps much anymore.

Thank you for the suggestion though :)

Hi all,

Hope you all had a pleasant holiday season.

I bought the stratocaster chronicals. Possibly the most disapointing book I've ever bought. Mr Wheeler seems so determined not to upset anyone he avoids anything like hard facts or clarifications on the many contradictory statments in his pseudo interviews/quotes. Not at all what I was after.

Also regarding the body wood of my 95, I very much doubt it's veneer. There are join marks in the grain, I wouldn't think they'd used joined veneer ?

I don't play with the tone knobs much but I was annoyed to find they appear to be normal taper audio pots, fine on a right handed guitar but quite annoying on a lefty.

I still love playing the thing, but at that price point I would ahve thought fender could have done better.

Anyway I've bought a 2005 us std loaded body and it's in nevada getting a custom neck. Hopefully this will yield a guitar that will address some of my issues.

Still looking for a "facts" book on strats. I don't sell books often but I think the wheeler book may go on ebay.
