Hello, everyone. I'm new here.

First of all, yes, I do plan on researching further in picking the perfect garage band strat. I'm just coming here first to view your opinions on which strat I should I purchase. Your opinions will hopefully aid my research.

I plan on buying a Fender Strat in about 2 months. The problem is, I have absolutely no clue about Fender and their products!

I plan to spend around 1-2k for the strat. So please help!

well for 1-2k, I would definitely go American, possibly a H-S-S combo. Is all the money going to the guitar, or do you have to spend some on the amp as well?

I'd say, 2k for the amp and strat. I could possibly throw in 200-300 more dollars if I can get a decent amp.

Any suggestions for the amp model?

I plan on playing Rock/Alternative.

No Heavy metal.

I say an American Strat or a Highway 1 through a Marshall. Just see what you can afford based on the money you can throw at it. But I honestly wouldn't spend all that much on a first guitar unless you're sure you're going to stick to it.

Hmmm.....A garage band strat?

I think I'm going to make people angry by saying...

Forget about a Fender.

Get a Squier instead.

For the price of a stock Fender Strat, you can get a Squier guitar that's loaded to the gills. You want hot pickups? Better frets? And, a guitar that you won't freak out about when something happens to it in the garage?

Get the Squier. Leave the Strat at home. Now, granted, I know for a fact a lot of people won't like this wisdom, but for about 800 dollars you can have a Squier Strat modded to your exact specifications and I'd put that guitar up against any Strat that would typically cost hundreds of dollars more...stock.....

Hello Tari,

My choice for your situation would be the American Standard.
That leaves you with another grand for an amp.

Cheers

i'd probably get an HSS american standard with that and a decent amp with the money remaining..... the HSS will give you a bit more kick from the humbucker for a more "garage band" type sound along with the great single coil tones... that will run a little over 1000 i think, so you still have some money to get quite a good amp (look into vox possibly)
