First, Here's the "Chip Off The Old Bottom" we all seem to have........

Second, Earthquake damage from the Big Bear/Landers Quake of June 28 1992.........

It knocked a 6 pound Rock my Dad had on Display right on to my 4 year old Stratocaster. After going through all 5 Stages of Grief, I've come to like the damage. The Rock is a suspected Meteorite, or perhaps a Chunk of Basalt my Dad still has on display.

I hadn't thought of it that way. That meteor was so dissapointed it only got to wipe out a few dinosours, that it had to run into something Man Made. Jelous little Meteorite.

Can't really see all the defects unless you're really looking close. THis one has been throught the mill a few times and now has what I refer to as a disposable (mexican) neck. But with the modifications and TLC built in by a good friend, this guitar screams!

Nice job! Can I ask how the crack happened? And also I'm curious as to whether you feel the sound of your instrument is any different.

Well, I was putting some kluson tuners on and I forgot to drill pilot holes for the screws (I just wasn't thinking). I just started screwing the screws in and about half way through the headstock cracked the whole length across all 6 tuner holes. It was pretty bad, it wouldn't have took much to pull the broke piece completely off, it was actually hanging by a thread.

To be honest, you might think that seven screws in the headstock would add some mass to it and in return sound different, maybe better sustain or a tone change of some sort, but the fact is it never sounded any different. This happened about 6 years ago, and since then I can't tell any change one way or the other. Just cosmetic, that's all.

I was happy with the way it turned out. You can't hardly see it from a distance. Sometimes I even forget it's there.

Yea, I love dark sunbursts. How did it get that dark, or does it just look that way in the picture?

Was your strat repainted?

...It looks as if there is a black or sunburst (?) paintjob under the white.

The way it looks in the picture is exactly the way it looks in person. If you take it outside it lightens up a lot, almost looks natural. That's actually a homemade finish, I sanded the body down to bare wood and then stained it to give it that orange tint (that was really tricky), then spray painted the black on with some cheap spray paint so it would wear out really fast. Those dark colored spots is where my sweat stained the wood (I didn't really anticipate on that happening, hehe). The guitar was white when I bought it (looked just like firstmeasures guitar up there), then I sanded it all down and painted it gold, after that it ended up like you see it now.

I didn't spend more than about 3 bucks on that project, haha.

It's been Olympic since I bought it from Guitar Center in 1989. I was really surprised to find such a Thick black coat under the white. It's thicker than the white coat. There's also a Semi-Shiny Clear coat under the black.

It's all real good paint, Fender had solid finishes in the 80's.

^^^ The guitar is literally entombed in finish and the body could probably survive a neuclear attack.... I wouldn't be the least bit surprised it the body lasted 500 years!
