Fender also announced (earlier this year, I believe), a noiseless version of their 50's style pickups, but I have never seen them in the market place.

The new Fender noiseless pickups you're talking about are none than the Super 55 split-coils, which supposedly emulate the classic vintage single-coil tone of an original 1955 Strat pickup without the hum. Fender had already plans for including these new hum-cancelling babies in their American Deluxe series in 2012.

If you enlarge picture #4, you will see that each pickup consists of two single coils. It works on the same principle as the P-Bass pickup. It is a humbucker with separate coils for E/A/D and G/B/E set end-to-end instead of side-by-side like PAFs or stacked like Vintage Noiseless pickups.

I suppose the Super 55s is Fender's response to the Lace Holy Grails.

Image

Lace has developed the Holy Grails after an original 1954 Strat pickup set. He stated that the Grails faithfully reproduce the '54 Strat sound without the noise.

Yet the Holy Grails came with a hot bridge pickup, which makes me thinking seriously if the Super 55 is also available with a hotter output as well...

1. Really noiseless?
2. How do they do it? Humbuckers?

Just wondering because I am thinking of getting them for my blue flower stratocaster. To replace the "noisemore" pups that came stock in it.
Switching from positions 1-5 sounds like "EEE-mmm-EEEE-mm-EEE"
Thanks for any help.

Just from my own experience I'd recommend the Hot Noiseless set. Fender collaborated with Jeff Beck on those. I personally like them best from the noiseless series. I found them to be both hot and noiseless relative to other single coil pickups.

The Hot Noiseless pickups were also available as a standard feature on USA Deluxes made between 1998 and 2003.

The SSS models featured a Hot Noiseless pickup in the bridge for more punch and sustain, as well as harder attack; the neck and middle pickups were primarily designed to achieve a better balance with the Atomic humbucking bridge pickup (American Deluxe Strat HSS/HSS LT).

Is Fender definitely replacing the N3's for 2012 with these? Will the change happen right away?
