We obviously see lots of talk here about who loves their Fender Texas Special pickup set or their Fender CS 69 pickup set, Fender etc, etc. pickup set in their Strat(s). I'm just curious: Who here mixes and matches different Fender Strat model pickups in the same Strat, what models in particular and in which position have you placed them?

I've done mixed sets of various manufacturers' pickups in Strats. My MIM Classic Strat currently has a DiMarzio Red Velvet in the neck, a Duncan Quarter Pound in the middle, and a Rio Grande Stelly in the bridge; my '82 partsocaster had Duncan SSL's in the neck & bridge with a DiMarzio in the middle, and back in the late '70s I had a Quarter Pound in the neck, the stock Fender in the middle, and a DiMarzio Pre-B1 Tele pup in the bridge of my '75 Strat.

But if you're restricting this thread to mixed & matched Fender pickups I won't go into the long and boring details of how and why.

Even Fender does that on certain guitars, specially the FCS.

I replaced the factory pickups on my 95 American Standard with Seymour Duncan Virtual Vintage on the neck and middle pickup, so I guess this guitar enters in the category you're mentioning.

As for Alain's remark, the Robin Trower CS Strat is a good example of mixing pickups :

Texas-Special on the bridge
RW/TP Custom 60's Single-Coil in the middle
Custom 54 Sing-Coil on the neck

What more can one want ? :)
