They are incredibly versatile, like citizenerased pointed out, from Hendrix to Metallica to Yngwie Malmsteen, you can play just about anything. Also, they are gorgeous, come in a variety of choices, and, in my opinion, have insanely great tone (especially the American series). I love my Strat :)

More comfortable then an LP. More versatile then an LP. Lighter then an LP. More tonefull then an LP. More options then an LP. Easier to mod to your own specs then an LP.

It's a rock icon for the everyman. There's one for every price range and skill set. It's the perfect solid body electric guitar. I can't even imagine life without one.

Stratocasters are my favorite overall guitar. They look, feel, sound and play great! Leo Fender really knew what he was doing!

I think that the most ingenious instruments ever invented:

Pianoforte or piano
Electronic and virtual synthesizers
Modular Fender Stratocaster electric guitar

I now own a Gibson Les Paul and a Fender Strat.

I still play the Strat more because it's just got that "I got it, baby, but you're going to have to dig in" kind of tone and feel.

The Gibson plays like butter....but that doesn't necessarily make me a better tone lover.

i have a Mexican standard stratocaster, and i replace the bridge p/u with seymour duncan SH-4 JB model. I play with Vox AD15VT, and i got 3 choice of tone. Extra hot output, vintage sound, and twangy sound.....

I got the `08 Strat, and for some reason it feels like its custom made for each individual. It`s just a pleasure to play and I can sit there from 2 to 6 hours a day practicing. I could never do that with my L.P. or Gretsch.

Like it says below - to quote John Mayer:

"It was right from the start you know? They haven't had to change it, it just works"

At the heart of the Stratocaster is one simple thing: Fun.

While really user friendly, they still want you to coax the magic out of them. Makes it a really cerebral relationship between player and instrument.

It's a guitar that, while being arguably the most high profile guitar out there (don't argue, LP players  ), still does not take itself too seriously. It's high quality and gives so much, yet still remains non-elitist.

They're light, but solid. They're extremely comfortable with those sexy contours in all the right places.

And above all, this can be said of them all, even my real junk Squier Strat that was my first (and was never set up or maintained in any way because I didn't know better): They Sound Awesome!
