I am new to the Fender forum, so bear with me

I've got a 2005 MIM Fender Stratocaster 60th Anniversary Edition in Candy Apple Red, while I love the guitar the way it is, are the parts on the Mexican made guitars equal to the American made guitars? My main question is whether or not the tuners are the same, as I have noticed the guitar dosen't stay in tune (has never been set up) I have heard of other people with MIM Strats upgrade the pick ups and what not, is it really worth it?

Unless they changed something and I haven't noticed.....the tuners for the MIM guitars can be replaced with Fender tuners from an American Standard. I have done this before :) But this was before 2001, and the tuners from the USA Strat were not the ones with the graduated post heights. Used to be that the only difference in the MIM and USA standard tuners were the screw holding the tuner button on being either a flat head or a phillips head screw :D But the way they mount up looks exactly the same, so I think they will drop right in with no problem!

Hi RedStrat05,

Fender's 60th ann is 2006, not 2005. MZ5 serial number can be 2005 to 2006, and if you have the little badge/sticker for the 60th ann, then yours is a 2006 model.

All MIA and MIM Strats had the little badge, but that doesn't make them an "Anniversary Edition", and other than the badge, they are just the regular versions. If you have an actual ann edition, post some pics.

The MIM Strats use the Ping tuners, which usually aren't that great, and are not the same as MIA Strats use Schaller, even though the two brands of tuners look identical and are directly interchangeable. Many of the parts are the same for MIA and MIM, but in this case, I believe that the tuners are not the same, but are interchangeable.

Of course things might be different now as far as brands used on each Strat, but traditionally the MIA and MIM each had a different brand of tuner.

I like that 2006 badge, got one on my MIM Strat HSS (FSR)

Even confirmed "Made in America" types seem to like it till they look at the serial number<G>

Odd how that "affects" the sound<VBG>

You may well have the answer to the problem in your question...

Mine came from a 40 year experience Fender certified shop, and the owner did the tech work on set up himself (he was considering taking it home for HIS collection)

I can pick it up after sitting for a month and it's in tune... doesn't seem to mind my dive bombs on the whammy bar either...

You might want to get it set up RIGHT before deciding anything about modding the instrument... just my two cents<G>

Rockstar-

I am unable to insert a pic for some reason. But the badge the back of the head is silver diamond with 60 in the middle with Fender on top of it.
