Thinking about picking one up in Lake Placid Blue as a Christmas present to myself...
Should I go for it?
If you've played it, what do you think about it?
Thanks

Glass...Heck yeah! I got one about 6 months back in Candy Apple Red. They are fantastic players and solid tone! I really like mine, but if they had had one in LPB, it would have been one very tuff decision. Mine has a highly figured headstock as well as the back of the neck about 1/3 of the way down the neck. It is almost a cross between flame and quilting...the pictures don't do it justice.

You should definitely "go for it".

The Classic Series MIM's are the closest you can get to an original "Leo-spec" Strat without stepping up to the MIA AVRI's or the Custom Shop editions.

I own several myself -- all in different colors, with different pickup sets.

I own 2.....one in Shell Pink and one in Burgundy Mist Metallic. These are among the best import Fender's there are. They have all the vintage vibe you could ask for, the 7.5" radius on the fretboard, a slab board at that! And they have the right look too! the stock pickups are very stratty! I think they are too highly priced new, but buying one used for around $450 or so should be possible ;) I left one completely stock, and the other one got Texas Special Pickups. The Texas Special pickups are similar to what is already in these guitars, but the Texas Specials are a little hotter and have just a tad more mid-range "umph!"

+1

A set of MIA CS pickups and a steel trem-block are really all these guitars need to bring them up to stage-ready specs.

I replaced both bridge and tuners on mine. The bridge had a bevel that caused it to slide up and down the mounting screws, and the bridge plate didn't lay flat. The stock tuners could have stayed on because they are decent quality, I just ordered them with the bridge and put them on because I had them. I installed the Gotoh standard from StewMac. The Gotoh vintage tuners required the 10mm bushings, which are extra. To save a few bucks, just order the Gotoh standard bridge, use the mounting screws from the stock tremolo, and install it.
