I am playing a 2000 American Deluxe Strat HSS. Been working on a lot of Clapton lately and I am looking for tips on how to compensate for the difference in pick-up styles. I know he uses the standard set-up. Thanks

if your bridge pickup has the 4 wires you could install a coil splitter. other than that I don't know how to get a good single coil sound from a humbucker.

That's a great idea! I had not thought of that. This would be like a push/pull switch on one of the pots? or a secondary switch? Is this a task for a decent handyman or a specialist?

Before you go to too much trouble, make sure it's necessary. When I saw Clapton a few months ago he spent pretty much the whole night on his neck and middle positions.

its not super complicated if you know how to use a soldering iron.
and if you use a push pull pot you don't have to modify the pick guard. the last one I wired up I replaced the bridge tone control with a push pull.

here is a diagram of coil tap in the volume position. but you can wire the tap in any pot location.
the colors of the wires will be different between manufacturers.
