Right now I own a les paul which is great for heavy rock and stuff but not the best for the cleaner tones. I want to get a strat thats good for playing clean stuff and bules but doesn't cost me an arm and a leg (lesst than $700). If you think you know a stat it would be great if you culd post a message.

Highway One guitars are awesome. Although, the standard MIM Strats are great for the money also. :D

I am also going to cast my vote for the Highway one, I have had my Highway One (Upgraded) Strat for a little over a week, and I can't put the thing down.

yeah, the sentiment here seems to be either a highway one (made in usa!) or one of the vintage series (50s, 60s, 70s) strats (made in mexico). All the highway one strats i have played were great, but i own a "50's" mexistrat. I just like older style necks better. I would compare a couple of highway ones and some of the vintage series. In my opinion these guitars are the best values that fender makes. When you try them out, try and use your amp or an amp at the store that is as close to yours as you can find. Play it loud too! your choice should be made on how it sounds and how it feels.

haven't played the highway one's, but the fender standard strats seem to be awesome to me, just $400 at musiciansfriend or other places. might swap the pickups but that's personal preference...
