Hi harleyford,

You can use it, but it would be a waste, as the maple board has a poly finish and the lemon oil will not soak in like it will on a rosewood board. No treatment is required for a maple board. The rosewood board has no finish and requires some treatment, such as lemon oil, to keep the board from drying out.

Because maple fretboards are sealed while rosewood has open pores. The lemon oil won't soak into a maple fretboard.

Edit: Shimmilou beat me by 1 sec.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

Like when you spill oil down the side of the fender when the bottle slips out of your hand....right down the side of the fender.... and that is the way a maple finger board would feel with oil on it!

And if your neck is partially worn it will look even worse as the oil will fix the stains.

Rosewood loves oil, but a raw maple neck will just look dirty.

It you want to use anything (and I can't imagine why) use Pledge.

I personally sand a lot of the finish off of the back of my maple necks with fine grit sandpaper. Especially my '00 EC Strat neck. Some of the finish has worn away and has chipped. So to smooth out the ruff spots I sanded it smooth.
