Hi guys!, How are you doing?, this is my first thread and is also going to be my presentation to this forum!
I'm from Argentina, i'm 24 years old and i'm traveling to the states by the end of the year... (LA AND NY)

Since it's my first visit, i don't know why, but i feel the need to buy me a new guitar... (capitalism talking i guess ha!)

I alredy own 4 guitars...
Fender american traditional (The one which is half made in mexico and half made in usa despite saying "made in usa")
an Ephiphone Les paul, and a gibson acoustic, and a yamaha acoustic too...

I always wanted to own a Gibson les paul... My budget is around 1k... i know i can buy in places like guitarcenter used guitars that are cheap... (Maybe you can recomend me where to buy instead this place... but it has the better website for me to browse within my country -.-)

ANyway i can't get this feeling from my head... i've been playing as a main guitar all my life (since 1999) my Fender stratocaster... and i loved it, i really mean it, but i was thinking that instead of buying a les paul, maybe i should buy an american standard... or an american deluxe... but here comes my problem...

Is it worth to buy a new guitar?, i mean a 2011 model?, maybe it's best if I buy some pick ups, and tune up my fender, i know this is like an ignorant question.. but, since here in my country to buy one of this guitar i must pay almost the DOUBLE i would pay in usa... so I don't really know what to do... I was seeing in the fender page the different models and i went crazy... really come on! with that much to choose how the hell should i decide !
If i had to choose, i really love fender '59 sound...(Mike Mccready PJ) obviusly i don't have that kind of money... and there is no a reissue made (BTW is it worth to buy a reissue? are they any good?) smthing like this (http://www.guitarcenter.com/Fender-Road ... 434663.gc#)

So can you tell me if there's a guitar like that? or if there's a way to tune up my guitar to make it sound like a 59?, or well... maybe i should buy one of the new models...

thanks a lot for reading and hope to get help!!!!

Hi erikoteh,

If you have really loved the sound of your Strat for 12+ years, I wouldn't change it.

In your case, I see no real reason that you have to have a brand new guitar, a good used one would be fine, nothing that special about the 2011 models.

Check for a used "American Special" with Texas Special pickups, for a great guitar for good price.

Even an inexpensive Mexican Standard would be a great platform for upgrades like some new pickups, and not cost much. It could be something different from your main Strat.

The guitar that you linked to is not a reissue, and considering the alternatives, might be a bit over-priced as you can get a new American Special for that price or less.
