What polishing compounds and methods are safe for a Highway 1 finish?

Are there polishes that are safe for the pre-2006 acrylic lacquer finishes and not the newer nitro finishes (and vice-versa)?

use a good carnuba car or furniture wax. It won't get as shiny as a polyurethane finish, but they shine up nicely.

Just use a non-silicone based guitar polish  oh and avoid using guitar straps, stands or wall hangers mede from vinyl, plastic, synthetic or surgical rubber tubing, as these matrials may react with the lacquer and mar the finish

Do you just want to clean it or do you want to change the satin finish to a high gloss?

Whatever you do, make sure you choose a nonflammable polish, so you don't end up like this poor fellow:

I used mcguiers car cleaner wax (liquid) with awesome results.

I have owned thre HWY guitars and used it on all three, it looked the very best on the honey blonde.

I use Dunlop 65 and a microfiber cloth to clean and buff my guitar.

You should go light on any kind of guitar cleaner/polish. Dunlop 65 or most others will be fine for polyester, polyurethane and nitrocellulose finishes, but use sparingly. Plenty of hot breathe and a dry cloth is the best treatment of all.

If you have the satin finished nitro on recent HWY 1s then that latter method is the one for you. You certainly must avoid polish with any cut in it whatsoever, or your satin will turn glossy.

Cheers - C

I use Johnson's paste wax for my HWY1. It kept the satin look but also brought a little shine to it. :)

I polished my Hwy One to a nice (thin) glossy finish.

Thank you Fender!
