Hey all, as mentioned above today after many years I finally was able to purchase a 1983 fender american strat in black. This one http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... TQ:US:1123 . I had 1k to spend and for years sellers wanted at least 1.5k with absolutely no room for negotiating.Ones that I did find for less were modded and in crap condition. With this seller in particular would not budge but I stayed persistant. So that means my main guitar will go on ebay.As to me, that year was the best.If you check out that link you could see why.I can't acertain why fender did not continue the guitar if it was a cost effective measure.Well any thoughts comments please do.

What's your main guitar right now?
What if you get the '82 and it plays like crap?

I hope you haven't bought that guitar....

That is NOT a "Smith" Strat.

Ok, thanks for that update so this is not a smith strat??But created by him??Eitherway, One thing I despise about fenders is the backplate.Which is why I'm in love with this model. And it is in mint condition along with everything. If it isnt playable or good than I can return it.Fact is it's more rare than a smith strat anyway.Though I've never played it, Every fender I've played hit home for me and what I want is a guitar that has a mystique about it.My main guitar now is a mia fsr all black le which is listed and equalled the same cost as when i bought this.I have 2 other fenders but there my beaters this will stay at home.I cannot wait!!!

They aint that bad. The trem is very difficult to maintain. Tuning stability is near non existent if you trem on that model.
They weren't built by Dan Smith.

Hi again, ok I have heard this before about the trem being bad. However, I saw on youtube a video of the trem working just fine after dive bombs.I don't even use the trem to often but it's nice to have. This guitar is something to me, Also I do not know is routing for a humbucker(though i think i can retrofit at the bridge) or adding a pickguard hole depreciate it's worth? This will be my oldest guitar I've ever owned. Thanks arjay for looking. But that seller has listed it before.Id rather pay the difference to have it in mint condition as that is beat up a bit.If it wasn't vintage i wouldnt care. This is primarily going to be my bedroom guitar.I will beat on the other two I have lol.

One more thing, it's safe to call this a smith era guitar right??That site clearly said these were made under his creative plan. Speaking about plans, Plan b if this is a dud is savin for a cs guitar.

I never did see a cleaner example of a 2 knob Stratocaster before, maybe back in the days when they came out.
It´s part of Fender´s history and this is a great example.

Cheers,
Robin

Yeah I know the one I bought is as if I went back to 1983 and and bought it at the local guitar shop that sells fenders though a little bit more expensive. The other one has many dents, scratches paint issues but I do like the maple neck more but that's all.
