Changing the look of my strat from Candy Apple Red with W/B/W pickguard to Black with B/W/B pickguard. Almost bought a MIA pickguard on Friday, but the tech said he thinks the holes are not lined up the same between the MIA amd MIM strats. I know the squiers aren't, but mexicans aren't the same? Is that true? Doesn't sound right to me....

The MIM stuff came more in line with the MIA stuff in 2006.

MIM Deluxes (and MIM Classics) have always had USA-compatible pickguards.

It was the MIM Standard Series that had different screw patterns for a while.

And IIRC the Standards got USA-spec guards long before '06 -- back in '00 or thereabouts when they upgraded from mini-pots and box switches to full-size pots and USA open switches.

At any rate, it would just a simple matter of drilling a couple of new screw holes. If any of the old holes overlap the new hole positions you'd need to fill them first but pickguard screws are low stress -- wood filler putty would be fine.

Even if the USA guard doesnt fit your MIM guitar, it will only be off on 2 or 3 holes. You can easily drill 3 holes and with the guard on, no one will know (well you will LOL )

At the moment, I have bigger issues. My new (used '03 Deluxe MIM) body isn't getting along with the neck... Its almost if the neck is too high...

That's why I always recommend someone buy a 2006 or newer when purchasing a used MIM. I practice what I preach as well, my oldest are 2006's.
