Hello all,

New to the boards, my local superstore has a sale on today and I was told they have the 2008 American Standard I want. Problem is yesterday they told me they only have 2007 Strats. Needless to say I don;t have that warm and fuzzy feeling about what they know. I was also told that there is no difference between a 07 and 08?

So if I go there tonight, how can I tell if I'm getting an 08 or 07?

Thanks

Get the serial number and go to www.guitardaterproject.org - type in the number and it'll tell you when it was made...........J

The serial number will start with Z7 if it's made in 2007 and Z8 if it's a 2008. The salesman doesn't know what he's talking about either. The American Standards were introduced as a 2008 model and there is a difference between the American Standards (2008) and the old American (2007).

Awesome - thanks for the super quick response. I'm getting it today if it's an 08.

Now should I get a Blues Junior with it or a Champion 600? Can't wait till tonight!!!

At first glance, a 2008 Am Standard is recognizable by the stamped steel saddles, whereas a 2007 Am. Series (notice I did not say Standard for the 2007 model) will have flat stainless steel saddles. There are other differences, but this is the most obvious.

Your gut feeling is warranted....follow it.

^^^ Right - you should be able to tell the difference at a glance of the saddles.

Also, some of the early new for 2008 Americn Standards were built in late '07, so you can't just judge by the serial number. As stated above, look at the saddles.

Hello CJL

Without a doubt--blues jr.
Twice the price, tenfold the amp.

Best of luck on your selections.

If the choice is between the Blues Jr. and the Champ, there's is no choice, the Blues Junior wins. The only reason for the Champ would be price.

I GOT IT !!!!!!!!!

American Standard Strat, with the new bridge and the delta tone and the new case. The serial number is Z7? But it cannot be a 07 because it has all the changes. In any event I got it in White with maple neck. She's sweet really sweet.

They are having a sale on Saturday for 20% off all guitars, I got the deal a day early. So I got the MIA 08 Standard for $800.00 (is that good).

I also got the BJ in Black for 20% off.

But you might get annoyed at tsome of my initial comments.

My 1980 something Kramer has a very decent sound compared to the Strat. I think I may like my GDEC 30 better then the BJ. The BJ has MUCH better sound but does not have all the functions of a GDEC.

In any event, thanks for all the help, it was much appreciated, I am now a proud owner of a MIA Fender Strat.

Hmmm, your Kramer sounds very decent compared to the Fender and your G-Dec is better than the BJ. What kind of deal do YOU think you got??

I think I was tired when I posted that, the Kramer has always sounded good to me, I have always liked the humbuckers in them.

Now with rest in me and hours of playing my Strat, they don't compare, they are different guitars so my comment was silly.

As far as the BJ and the GDEC, I'm still up in the air on that one. Maybe I am partial to the GDEC as well, can dial in many sounds without any pedals.

I did not mean to bash any product.

I think I got a great deal, thanks.

Congratulations CJL! What color did you get? Post some pics?
Regarding the serial number, as I mentioned above, some new '08 American Standards would have been made in late '07, just like some new '08 model cars will have been produced in '07, so that product is available for the initial introduction. Hence your serial number starting with Z7.
The '08 I'm looking for is back ordered everywhere. You're fortunate you found the one you wanted. Enjoy!

Thanks Gengap - I really love the strat, it's Olympic white with the maple fretboard, I was sold the minute sombody else posted the same strat on here.

The Olympic white is awesome in person, it's not pure white, it has a little off white to it, and goes great with the maple board.

Not sure what guage strings I'm going to put on it, I think it comes with 9's? They feel light to me, but I'm used my kramer with 11's and my acoustic. The 11's are nice but I would think I would then have to add springs and or adjust the bridge and alter the stock set-up, which I'm not sure I want to do.

Good luck with finding one, they had the Sienna Sunburst here in Charlotte but it has the three single coil pups on it like mine that color is sweet looking as well in person, it is very "glossy" compared to the solid colors.

Will try and post a pix.

CJL

I agree, and this is the easiest way that I can tell the difference is by looking at the saddles. Both are great guitars though. I have not purchased a 2008, but I did get a 2007 on clearance.
