Has anyone ever brought their guitar to guitar center for a setup or any kind of repair? I brought my guitar to a guitar center with someone working from raritan bay guitar repair. I wanted to know if guitar center was fine to bring my american standard strat there. Also, do they clean the neck when they do a setup? Thanks

Hi ynk50,

At the GC nearest to me, they do setups, string changes, and quick parts changes like tuners, right at the counter while you wait and you can watch while they work. From what I've seen, they do a very good job. One way to know if your GC is any good is to try them.

Not sure, you could call them and ask what services they provide, and price.

Why would you not clean your guitar yourself... :?: :?
Why spend $50 to $100 for that... :?:

It's easy enough, all you need are Q-tips,cotton cloths, a non abrasive cleaner and a little elbow grease.....

Find a nice privately owned mom n' pop shop. Go in and talk to them and get to know the person who is going to be working on your fine guitar. While it more than likely won't be done "while you wait" (trust me, there is a reason for this. Good guitar techs are usually backed up a few days and there is usually only one working in the store.) it will be done by someone with more knowledge and experience who truly knows the instrument and can give you your desired results.

Guitar Center is very hit and miss. One week, they may have a very competent person doing setups or repair, and the next, some young guy that can't even tie his shoes or wear his pants properly LOL. Their employee turnover rate is very high, and they usually don't pay "career" type wages.....so people move on, especially the good ones ;)
