Hi Tim Bradshaw,

What do you mean by feedback? If the guitar is too close to a loud amp, you are liable to easily get feedback in all but the 2 and 4 positions.

Its like a humming sound in just those poistions. I pluged my other guitar in at same setting it works just fine. one pickup by itself is a louder hum or buzzing. But the hot rail by itself is fine.

That's not feedback, it is the normal hum that single coil pups have, some more than others. You may notice that the noise is worse when the amp is switched to drive channel, or a distortion pedal is used. When you select position 2 (bridge and mid) or position 4 (Neck and mid), this inherent hum is canceled if the mid pup is RWRP. You might often hear the term "noise-canceling" when referring to positions 2 and 4 on a Strat with single coil pups.

The normal hum from the pickups can be worse depending on any electrical interference from fluorescent lights, computer monitors, and other devices. Also, some guitar cables are better than others for reducing the noise. Of course, proper electrical grounding for the outlets used for the amp can keep the hum to a minimum. If the outlet has a poor or no ground, or if you use the dreaded two-prong adapter, the hum can be even worse.

The Duncan Hot Rails pup is not really a single coil, it's a hum-bucker in a single coil size, so it has its own noise canceling and won't hum like a single coil pup.
