I have a deluxe HSS strat...I needed to balance the volume for the 3 pups...the humbucker was very loud compared to the single-poles, so, i adjusted the neck and middle Pups just fine...but in trying to lower the humbucker on the bridge...one of the the pickup adjuster screws came loose (disengaged). So I re-tightened it, but the Pup is still a little high to balance the volume against the neck and middle pup. any advice on how to resolve this...or do i need to take the pickup guard off and fix it?? and if so any advice on this maneuver??

many thanks for any help

If it disengaged the threads on the pickup and you still want it to go lower then I guess you're going to need longer machine screws. There should very likely be some company that specializes in fasteners near you perhaps in an industrial park. The yellow pages can be helpful. I live near Edmonton and there are a few companies like that there. The one that caters somewhat to the general public and is the most accessible to non-industrial customers is called Edmonton Nut & Bolt. Maybe there's something similar near you. Make sure you take the screw into the store with you and say you want, "three per sample but 3 or 4 mm longer."

Question: Was your pickup almost flush with the scratchplate when the screw disengaged? Those screws are usually long enough to go pretty darned low.

You also should look into the Fender specs and see the recommendations for pick-up pole to string clearance.
If that adjustment does not solve the issue, then it could very well be that your Pick ups are mismatched....Have it checked..

Thanks for the suggestions......i seem to have somewhat resolved the issue. I was able to level the humbucker by using the two adjusters on the bass side and get it a bit lower...seems about as good as i can expect when trying to balance single poles with the power of the doubles. I am planning to remove the pick-guard to see whats happening...and i will then see if maybe i need some longer length of tubing and try to find a longer screw so it can be lowered properly.

many thanks

That problem is what turned me away from HSS Strats. I had a Deluxe Lonestar and the output volume on the humbucker would cause the amp volume to jump when switch pup's. Might be a better idea to have a seperate volume control for the bridge... SS1 might be another option...
