allright... why is the hole plugged up in the headstock of this strat? no access to the truss rod?
have a dentist friend of mine who wants me to give him guitar lessons and he told me he's got a mexican strat that's been sitting around for awhile. i offered to set it up for him.
turns out it's not a mex but a japanese model. on the initial check of the neck, it looked good, but in the event that it does need some adjustment, there's no access to the truss rod... or is it hiding somewhere that i just don't know about?
thanks.
how's everybody else doing?
ftk

Did you examine the neck at the heel?

That's where the truss rod adjusts from on the vintage and vintage re-issue guitars.

thanks arjay... i just spotted the screw head a minute ago.
ran back up the stairs to let everybody know it's a false alarm.

on the other hand, isn't it a pain in the "neck" to have to remove the pick guard just to access the adjustment screw? it's a slotted screw-head and it's half buried.

That's the way Leo designed it back in the day -- faults and all. The re-issues are faithful duplicates. Ergo, they too have all the warts. And yes......they are a PITFA to adjust.

We just have to live with it.

Mine's like that and taking off the pickguard was a pain, so I got a half round file and made the scoop out, on the pickguard, bigger (the original was minute) and finished the edge off with 1200 grade emery wrapped round the file , so its as smooth as the other edges.

Now I can at least make very minor adjustments with my specially cut down screwdriver
(1/8th of a turn or so )
Looking at Mr Hendrix's white strat and zooming up the pictures, it looks like he did the same but there are a few screwdriver chunks there too.

well, lucky for me, it's not my guitar so i don't have to worry about it... and when i gauged it, it was .010, so no adjustment necessary.
it seems to be a re-issue of a '70's strat, SSS, machine heads with the slotted tops, etc. after the setup was done it played really nice... well, what did i expect?... it said "Fender" on the headstock... must be a Fender, right? 8)
