Hey guys,

I'm looking into buying an American Strat. I found one pretty in expensive on craigslist. I'm trying to figure out from low quality photos what Strat make, year, and model I'm looking at. Pros, I need your help. I know how to decipher a more recent make, but I'm not all knowing.

I'm still awaiting some better quality pictures before I make a trip to check out the guitar to see if it truly is an American for such a low price.

The photos are bad, but I wouldn't waste my time. Looks like a some sort of Strat copy to me. It doesn't even have a Fender neck on it. Just how "inexpensive" is this guitar?

From a little research, looks like a highway one strat.

They're asking $200. If it's a highway one, my plans were to resell it and make some money in order to save for an american standard.

Not a Highway1 the bridge is wrong. It could be an American Standard body with a Highway1 neck. But it doesn't look right to me. That logo is far too bold and curls up towards the tuners rather than down into the ball.

+1 That bridge looks suspicious. The saddles look like some variation of the flat saddles you'd find on the two-point bridges.

You, sir, are correct. While it is possible to find good deals on American Strats on Craigslist and other sites, the price is just wayyyyyyyyyy too low unless the seller is completely ignorant of what they are selling.

You guys are right! It's a Starcaster. When I did the search I simply typed "American Fender". I went back to look at the listing again and the title says Starcaster. Knew it was too good to be true.

Thanks guys!
