That is what i did. I used a heat gun. Black was not the original color. It was midnight blue. All the original paint is off.

I understand if you don't like it, that's your choice. But I'm not asking for negative answers. I'm asking people who enjoy relics and creating relics to give me their opinion. It wasn't that expensive for me to use this as a project. So, if you are going to keep being negative, please go somewhere else.

I like relics, but your guitar looks destroyed. You should think about "what happens with a guitar in real life" and then do the relic, not destroy random areas in a way which looks unnatural. I'm sure you can do better than this!

Cheers

No I haven't. I may look into that. Thanks! by the way, that Custom relic looks good! What are the specs?
i have no idea  i just found that in a google search

when you do refinish the guitar the more the paint is cured the easier it will be. I suggest something that gets really hard really fast. if you rush it it wont turn out as good

After perusing the pictures... it looks just plain (sad) bad. Reminds me why I take really good care of my guitars. A REAL relic looks okay to me, but I honestly don't care to own one. You can start all over, but I think you're heading in the wrong direction.

I understand that people think this is crap!

But, just so everybody knows. I DO take care of my guitars. I have three others that get cleaned after every use and I would never dream of doing anything to them. A 93 MIA Strat, a 2003 Powerhouse Strat and a 60th Anniversary JV Signature Strat.

This was one I bought for cheap in hopes of having a project guitar. I understand where you might not like it. But keep in mind, this is my first try to do something like this. Yes, I've learned what to and what not to do. 1: I didn't put enough coats of paint. 2: I didn't let it set long enough before applying another coat. 3: I didn't relic it correctly.

I understand all of this. My hopes in posting was to get some feedback that would help! (Thanks to the few who did offer help) not feedback that says all the negative junk.

when you do refinish it use "Dupont Imron" that is some of the most durabla paint I have ever used. it will also set up rather quickly and will probably relic nicely. not cheap though

From what I can see, and if I understand your words properly, you stripped the whole guitar of it's colour? Then re-painted parts of it with ranch paint?

I imagine he was referencing one of these businesses.

Wow, that is one hell of a effed up paint job!
Why not strip it all again of all the paint then repaint it properly and then let it fully harden for a few weeks. You will need to do that before you polish it.
Then get a electric buffer and polish the crap out of it where you tend to get normal wear.
If you use a mild abrasive polish, for eg T-Cut, you will eventually get back to bare wood without the rough edges and get a more natural reliced look. Any form of sandpaper in not the way to go, it is just too abrasive.
Chips and knocks can be done just by carefully dropping it from a loooow height as you usually try not to do in the first place or get together with a few mates, gig or whatever and I will gaurantee your guitar will end up with a fine collection of dents.
AND please try not to drop it on your Mothers nicely polished wood floor, that way you will not get the guitar wrapped around your head for the final finishing touches and a foot up your butt.
I can testify that a foot up your butt, from the wife, after paying $11 000 for a gleaming real wood floor, is not very nice. Don't know what her problem was, only the strap button hit the floor so there was no damage to the guitar.

Don't know why you want to do it but hey , each to their own.
At least you had the sense to use a cheaper Squire to experiment with, maybe I might go the s/hand shop and get one to pull apart and have a mod with myself.
Too scared to even undo any screws on my deluxe in case I feck anything up.

no offense but i think you took too much off. The back looks fine but the top of the guitar looks like its half finished.
