i posted this problem with my e.c. strat a while ago...but no one seemed to have an answer. the problem is when a note is played and you switch the selector to a different pickup you hear a "pop" even when the boost is not turned up. turnning the tbx from 5 to 4 will also make a "pop" sound when a note is sustained. there is no "pop" when there is no note played and the prospective switch is operated. i have went through the guitar and can find no loose connections or bad grounds and the battery is good. could this be a bad componant on the board. i checked to see if any were loose or solderd poorly everything was ok. could a transister be bad? maybe amplifing the switch noise? anyone want to venture a guess?

If you are not familiar with a multi-meter, take it to a good guitar tech and have him check it out. Could be something on the board, or a bad solder joint, or a bad ground, or maybe that flux capacitor is set to the wrong year.

FWIW

yeh...i know how to use a multimeter. i even have a tester for tranisters and i have about every other type of tester to go with those. i'm just looking for a simple solution because i'm one of those people who look at the tech side first. but i'm lazy.dumb...yeh i know. just trying to see if anyone else has had this problem.

nutto...I have seen alot of different problems here on the Forum, but don't remember anything like this on a EC Boost, even did a couple searches and found nothing. I have had my EC Strat since 89 and never the slightest problem.

Good luck with figuring this one out.

It's an earthing/grounding problem, most likely.

The problem with the EC guitars is that you've a lot of gizmometry in a small box. Particularly the boost circuit that sits close to the scratchplate. The boost on those guitars is never off and provides quite an increase in output. Even when the boost knob is turned all the way down.
Get some small plastic bags put one around the circuitboard. One or two around the pots and one over the switch.
If you've any shielding inside the guitar body, remove it. It offers no benefit in that circuit and increases the potential for these kinds of problems.
