Hi, does anybody know the type of screws/screw thread that are used for the height adjustment of the new string saddles of american standard strats (post 2008). The usual american screws I get in Germany and metric screws don't fit. I need to replace the 8 mm screws for the G and D strings with 10 mm screws.

Hi georg8888,

Size/thread is #4-40 and has a .050 inch Allen adjust.

Hi Shimmilou, thanks for that useful hint. I looked up what #4-40 means, and I found out that there are also #4-48 threads. This would confirm with the fact, that the intonation screws have the same diameter as the height adjustment screws but less threads per inch so they don't fit. So I believe in this case the height adjustment screws are #4-48. Would you agree? I don't know why Fender is doing this to me.

Both the intonation adjust screws, and the height adjust screws should be 4-40 on the Am Strat. The Mex Std Strats use metric screws that will not fit the Am models (M3?). I don't know what 4-48 is used on, but that is more threads per inch, a finer thread. :?:

Here are all the bridge screws that Fender makes. Pick the ones that fit your guitar:

Thanks for your support, shimmilou & bluesky636

My Strat ist built after the year 2008. It is called American Standard and I guess they made some "improvements". I regret that I sold my American Strat in 1994. I totally agree and would have expected that the intonation screws and height adjustment screws are the same type, but they are definitely not. The height adjustment screws are not like that used in vintage strat or American Strats built from 1986 to 2007 and they are not M3.

Neither shimmilou nor I ever said that the saddle height adjustment screws and intonation srews were the same. We know that they are not and you can clearly see that from the webpage.

All American Strat saddle height adjustment screws are 4-40 thread. You have your choice of 1/4", 3/8", or 5/16" in different material and color. There is no such thing as a "4-48" thread. Pick the ones that fit your guitar. You can also buy them here:

Yep, I'd say that if the screws are not 4-40, then this is not a real Am bridge, or previous owner changed the saddle or bridge to some other brand. There were no changes to the Am Std saddle screws, or thread sizes in 2008. I believe that the 4-40 size has been used on Am Strats from the beginning. I am not sure of the size threads for Japanese, Korean, Chinese Strats, or the Chinese fakes though.

Maybe post a picture of your Strat, with a closeup of the bridge. This may help to identify it, as it sounds like something other than an Am Std Strat.
