I'm thinking of upgrading the bucker in my stock 2008 HSS. Looking for a heavier sound...hard rock/grungy...a little metal.

Any suggestions? Is a JB a big upgrade from the stock unit?

Do I need to be concerned about overpowering the single coils? Upgrading all 3 pickups is out of my budget right now.

Thanks.

What kind of amp and/or distortion pedal are you using?

Well before I mod the guitar, I think you'd be better off trying a different amp or maybe experiment with some stomp boxes. Which Mustang do you have? Are the high gain/metal patches perhaps lacking something?
