I have a multieffects unit that is nice to dial in any type of sound BUT I prefer to play my strat + boss tuner + cry baby + digitec distortion factory + fultone full-drive into a hotrod deluxe. Man!!! that baby is all the sweet tone I dig the most. The Fulldrive is amazing. I play just through it 99% of the time. Sweet drive then hit the boost and melt!!! The Distortion factory is used for the heavy mid scooped metal sounds. Not as much my style but fun to chug out some heavy riffs with. My opinion so ..... I will say, nothing will bring out the sweet sound of your guitar more than a nice tube amp. (assuming you are not playing a p.o.s. guitar)

Amen to the P.O.S. axe. I'll run my Strat, Paul, and SG through the GT-6 into (depending on the venue) either my blues, Jr. or my old Ampeg VT-22 (preferred for effects because there is Sooooo much headroom! but the bugger weighs a ton - I think approx 100 lbs. w/the Altecs!)

Being a Gibson guy for years I never really knew how great a Strat could sound through this rig until I crossed over last year. I learned that I'm a trans-brand axe slinger. There, I said it! I'm out, and it feels good to come clean.

Yeah, it feels good to come out of the closet! I'm the opposite of you, I've always been a Fender guy and have only recently began to appreciate Gibsons also. A Strat isn't a Les Paul and vice versa.

And, on the subject, I've had almost every type of effect out there from flangers to tremolos. I find all I really use is some analog delay, phaser, fuzz and occasionaly, a wah.

Ok, yes, based on what people have said here last week I bought a Blues Deville Reissue Amp and a Tube Screamer, and let me tell you, thats like a holy marriage! The blues deville amp is beauty enough by its own tone, but you put that tube screamer on it and it soars.

So my gear looks like this for the time being:

John Mayer Sig Strat
2005 Mex Standard with Texas Special Pickups
Blues Deville Reissue Amp
Tube Screamer TS-808
Digitech Screaming Blues
Boss Blues Driver

So does anybody see anything they think would compliment my setup well?

JoshuaJEly - It is nirvana when you find YOUR tone; it becomes part of you. Congrats! but you'll learn it's like a marriage - after a while it may appear to get stale and you'll stray; looking for things to 'spice it up'. But if you've really found your tone, that's where you'll return and all the effects in the world won't change that - they'll end up in the closet where they belong.

Well after saying my pedals are only
Quote:
Mine are just a VOX wah, TS-9 , volume and mostly unused flanger,
Reverb is foot switch to the amp.

I went and bought a BOSS RT-20 rotary sound processor,
OL is bit peeved at the cost.of this one, I told her I was going out get the line-6 roto-machine and brought home this one at only 3x the cost, whoupsie :)

But the Lesley and UniVibe effects are neat, so are the whirling lights :D
http://www.bosscorp.co.jp/products/en/RT-20/demos.html

Now I need to think of making a pedal board and getting power supply for them all.

How do you like the RT-20? I've got a TR-2 that can sort of simulate it, but was wondering about the Rt-20.

Other than the TR-2 the only other full time pedal is a Tube Screamer (TS-9). Occasionally I'll add a Vox Wah. Usually play into a Blues Junior so the reverb is built in although it would be nice to have it switched sometimes.

Getting the settings right seems to be a bit of a challenge for me, not much of an instruction book came with it :) SO a lot of experimentation is in order.

It does stereo channels and a keyboard through it is very nice sounding.
Works better with a tube amp(s), I've only tried it with my little solid state practice amp and the pedal drives it in to overload very easily.

It likes batteries, takes 6 AA's and lasts maybe an evening on them, really needs an external power supply.

MusiciansFriend has a pile of sample clips using it:

I like it so far and think it will be a keeper, not sure how often it will get used though.

VOX Tonelab SE, Damage Control Demonizer, Seymour Duncan SFX01 (p/u booster). they're the best pedal in my opinion
