Maybe this is in the wrong forum, but what the heck....Anyway, I wanted to get a few opinions and see if anybody had any personel examples of what type of effects work best with a strat/tube amp combo. I do own the digitech screaming blues and the boss blues driver, but ive heard good things about the tube screamer, and also to look into EQ pedals for solo's and other delay pedals and the such, and also (another opinion oriented question) would it be best just to buy a multi effects pedal, or to make my own collection? I guess you could say is that im looking to make my strat have the "golden tone" that everybody searches for.

I do know from personal experience that strats do sound different running through pedals than others guitars....

Find me a pedal that makes my strat sound like a sax and I'd think that I've died and gone to heaven!

Actually Josh this subject has been posted a few times in these forums- I think if you do a search in this as well as the Fender Lonuge forum, you'll get some answers. I posted a question concerning multi effects pedals vs. single and the consensus pretty much was overwhelmingly in favor of single effects pedals. That was the route I went and I'm not sorry. The only "downside" is the extra cost for a pedal board and power supply (I recommend either the Brick or the One Spot). The main reason for the single pedal preference was that you know what effect your getting with one "stomp" and dont have to scroll through menus. I currently have 6 pedals plus a tuner and they work really well for me- I have a mix of Boss, DOD, and Digitech. Hope this helps- but do a search and you'll find more.

I went the multi-effects route primarily because of money and am not sorry. Boss GT-6. It takes time to learn but I can set up various banks with the effects I want for each song or set and stomp away. I think I have way more flexibility than I would with single - but you do have to plan. And having so many can be distracting.

For home recording I use the COSM amp emulators so I can go directly into the computer, but for playing live I by-pass that and just use the effects.

I've found that I don't use most of the available effects but what I do use would have cost me twice what I paid for the GT-6 and the others? Well, they're always there waiting for me to experiment with. :)

i have a large array of pedals. don't use them all at once however. I just like the ability to pick and choose for different sounds. i've gained somewhere around 40 different pedals over the past few years, searching for the ultimate effects rig. however, a couple months ago, I found it.

distortion, delay, wah, whammy, phaser, flanger, eq, volume, chorus, noise gate.

if you get this effects setup, you will be able to do anything you could ever want.

of course, you can throw anything else in there. you might want to use a boost in there, so you don't lose tone with all them effects.

I'm one for simplicity. It wasn't until recently that I actually started using pedals. I used to just run my Strat straight into the amp, and use the channel selector footswitch from my amp to do all the work.

Recently however, I've acquired a volume pedal (which comes first in my chain) so I can make guitar swaps on stage without that stupid crackling while pulling the chord out, then a Fuzz Face, run right into a classic CryBaby, and then my Marshall. If I need a distortion that's not from my FuzzFace, I'm pretty sure my Marshall can handle it.

So I guess my view on the question would be "Single Effect pedals"

also, multiple effect pedals are nice to play around with, but they lose most of their effectiveness when playing a show.

in a live setting, you can't beat the simplicity of just having a stompbox to jump on.

I agree that without proper planning a multieffect pedal can be less effective, the key is planning your sets and programming accordingly. Do these and the GT-6/8 or GNX pedals can be quite effective.

I know exactly where that sacred tone lies, good sir. In a Fender Blues Jr. amp. Tone as pure as an infant's first tear.

Seriously, I don't know too much about the various name brands on the market. I swear by Boss, but that's because I haven't really ventured. My first pedal was a Boss. I've owned a few Colorsounds, tried a few others, but pretty much all I know is Boss (they do know how to make a pedal, though).

What I do know is that if you've got a nice, pure clean tone on your amp, any half decent pedal will sound awesome.

Guess everyone has their own favorites.
I too prefer separate stompers, while my Les Paul playing mate prefers an all in one, not sure which he got but he is always bending down to fiddle with it.

Mine are just a VOX wah, TS-9 (or wouldn't mind a TS-8 ), and volume.
Reverb is foot switch to the amp.

I have a vintage 70's Ibanitz flanger (yes I bought it used in the 70's :) ) needs 18v and I rarely use it. It's pots are starting to go too.

Been thinking of maybe adding a compressor, chorus, phaser but not sure how often they would get used.
