Those guitars are commonly known as '62 AVRI's (American Vintage Re-issue). Fender built thousands of them and the model remains in production.

+1 Retroverbial

I would get one made after they corrected the 12th fret dot spacing to the original positions. I believe it was 1998, maybe sooner, but you can see if the dots are almost directly under the A and B strings (correct original spacing), or more tangential to them (narrow non-original spacing). The quality and sound are no different, but little things like the dot spacing bug me.

+1

Absolutely! The dot spacing is one of the hallmark details of the early '60s instruments (the '50s Strats as well).

I prefer the phrase "detail-oriented".

Seriously great point Retroverbial. :!:

We all want, even demand that the makers get the details right, I expect it of myself also. I applaud the person/group/team that were so "anal" that they corrected the dot spacing. What's the alternative to being anal, being "diuretic"?

  we're just a bunch of geezers who have known what the originals were like and as Arjay said, detail oriented....it's not too much to ask for a simple thing like the dots to be where they're supposed to be.. :D

I just played one of these AVRI '62 strats and loved it. Especially the thin fret wire, and the pickups sounded awesome (hot, and noisy though). Very nice for a production guitar. The only things holding me back were the sticky high gloss back of the neck (though it's cool that there is no stripe on it), and the body color. I know they probably came with glossy necks, but it just feels too sticky. Wonder if some super fine sand paper would fix that. Wouldn't want to make the neck any skinnier though. On the color, just not a fan of sunburst or white, which are the only standard colors offered. I do see some places say it's available in "custom" colors, but I have no idea how to find on of those. Anyone know? I want a black one.

And the Headstock shape, the neck shape, the body contours, and the knobs. Just to name a few more things to be detail oriented about.
