bought an epi sg recently, and always been in love with my tele and have always had mixed feelings about my strats..... anyways, i was playing with the marshall today at half volume (yeah it felt GREAT) and played a couple songs on a few of the guitars.... picked up my strat (00 usa burst maple board.with red, silved and gold laces and some old strings and a locked bridge) kicked the amp to a bluesy dirty clean and totally refel inlove with the strat.... i havent really liked the guitar too much but have always kept it because i knew "one day she would just sing to me"... well people---- today is that day..... i now NEED to find a tortouseshell guard before i restring her.... in fact, im going to keep my eyes open for a good deal on a notherone someday....

the more guitars i buy, the more i appreciate the ones i already have!

I've had good luck vith eBay on most things. There's a range of prices on pickguards based on the manufactuer and models so you kind of have to be on guard. A couple of good place for replacement and custom parts are Warmoth (www.warmoth.com) and Stewart-MacDonalds (www.stewmac.com) if you haven't discovered them yet.

I'm not surprised. IMHO, the more one seriously plays on a Strat, the more one realizes that it is THE most versatile electric guitar on the planet. Sure, it may take a little more effort to play it in comparison with some other guitars, but I feel I'm playing something really substantial and after a while, the rewards are really substantial too. FWIW, a Strat has been my #1 electric guitar for 40 years now.

I don't sleep with my strat, but I do dream about it a few times a week. Ya know, I always loved strats....but something happened when I played an EJ for the first time. It was like the skys opened up, God came down and said this is your destiny. I approach the EJ in a way I've never done with any other axe. I found my doppleganger.

I remember reading years ago that Andres Segovia would routinely take his guitar into the bathroom with hin to practice on it while he, "concentrated".

You know, on my Blues Junior when I really want that Trower sound it goes to 11 on the volume and then the master rolls up pretty good too and don't forget the fat switch. The hum cancelling keeps it clean.

Most of the time, it's sings right in there with some settings that CA Feathers passed down here a while ago. A lot about the sound is the way the amp works with the guitar.

For a thick blues sound that's not too far from Buddy Guy, 7 volume, 7 bass, 7 mid, 5 treble, reverb 2, master as high as you want and then control volume on the guitar. Set the p'ups to 3 for a real thick sound, and up it to get sharper up to 10 for a real garage sound. The switch is neck-mid for sweet, and neck-bridge for sharp.

If you want to go for a real sweet vintage blues tone, back down the volume to 5 and up the reverb to 6 (that's a little higher than CA Feathers likes it but I'm hearing a lot of reverb on the old BB live stuff I've got). Now that guitar is clean and sharp as it gets, but the reverb fills it out and gives a great vintage blues sound that I love, personally, with the switch at neck-mid.

If you want a just straight out pure vintage rock and roll sound to have some fun, go with the same setting but down the switch to bridge and you get some of the sharpest twangiest vintage tone. Now play blues in G working up from the skinniest strings, 6-3-6, 6-3-6-3-6-3-6, 6-5-3, 5-3-5, 5-3-5, and bend like crazy and kick out some real vintage blues.

I wouldn't say I've slept with my guitar but I have been known to fall asleep with it still strapped to me... but that was decades ago when I was getting loaded while practicing.

i have slept with almost every guitar I have ever owned. Why? Because even when I am too tired to play sitting down, or standing up, or through my amp, i find myself laying down whilst playing my strat, or LPS's, or acoustic, while i go to sleep! ;)

I sleep with my Strat regularly. Trying to fit my Blues Jr in, but my girlfriend hogs the covers. Selfish.
