I presently own a squier, nothing wrong with it at all, i intend to keep it.

I'm thinking of upgrading to a FENDER Blacktop HH Strat RW. Any advice on them would be very much appreciated.
I've hanldled one in my local guitar shop, feels nice and comfatable, but a bit heavyer than the squier.

I watched a few video's on youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z2uPx0XaBAk and i like the sound from it.
Once again any advice would be most welcomed.

My experience so far has only been in the store. But having said that, I'm impressed enough with it to buy it. As of right now, it fits my budget and it overall seems to be of good enough quality to stand up to years of playing. It seems to me that you really like this guitar, so I'd say go for it.

Thanks for taking the time.
I plan to visit my local guitar store again to have another look. The neck seems right for my fingers, got stuby builders fingers you see,LoL, must lose some weight. LoL

I do like the guitar, but another look see would make it better to choose. :D

I had a Blacktop Stratocaster up to a couple months ago. I liked it but came across a heck of a deal on an American Standard. The only issue I had with mine was the neck humbucker was too muddy in humbucker mode, I loved the feel of it though.

Hi tincatoma,

Beautiful! I got the black w/ maple, and am very pleased, that CAR w/ rosewood is sweet. Mine came with great setup, only a little tweaking of pickup and saddle heights required. Plenty of beef in the sound in HB positions (1,3,5) my fav is the bridge (1), and the single coil neck sounds very Strat-like (4), even a good Tele tone with the two inner coils (2). I think that you made a good choice, congrats, and let us know your thoughts on sound.

I'm a beginner guitar player. Got the Blacktop as an investment in my learning.
Got it delivered today and hooked it up to my amp. Played a few chords and a few basic tunes, sounds awesome.

I'll get a picture when i can let go of the thing LoL LoL

Nice buy you did! I own one too, Sonic blue/maple, those guitars sounds amazing in every position of the switch. I upgraded mine with Fender locking tuners and aged white knobs & tip..and..i was lucky enough to get one with the big trem block too :)

You can find some pics of my Blacktop here

How is the setup in yours? Mine's needed a couple of adjustement but i think it's more about personal taste

The Fender/Schaller locking tuners are a direct fit and in my opinion a good investment. The pots on the Blacktop are not split top, try to find knobs with a little locking screw on them. I had put Telecaster chrome ones on mine when I had it. Hope this helps a little. Also look on the website for how to change strings on the locking tuners, it is not the same as regular tuners.

I had the original ones, it's called "Fender Accessory Kit". I didn't manage to found all of the parts (knobs, switch tip and tremolo arm tip) separately, so i bought this, it includes also the back cover and pups covers, wich we won't need :) and, for the knobs, i managed to put'em on, without changing the pots. They require a bit of pressure but they fit with no problems ;) And last, for the tuners, as rkreisher said, they're plug & play  remove the old ones and put the new ones on..and they're worth it! It's far more easy to replace strings, and it helps the tuning, plus, they're staggered, like the ones mounted on USA Standards & so on 8)
