This thread is beyond awesome 8) Looks like you have a cool workshop there Jeff, a drill press 8) Can you build guitars without really expensive things like that? or do you have to have them?

BUILD #1

I might as well share with you what my plans are for the Ultra Flamed body in BUILD #1.

Image

I will use the Ultra type wiring as in Build #2 but instead of Black pickups, I will use all Chrome pickups. There will be Red Hot Chrome Domes in the bridge in conjunction with a 3-way mini-switch. There will be a Hot Gold Chrome Dome in the middle and then a Seymour Duncan 59 PAF (Nickel plated SH-1N). The 59 PAF was built with the same kind of enameled wire, nickel-plated studs, and balanced coil windings that humbucker inventor Seth Lover used in his first pickups. So think vintage 59 Gibson in the neck on this Strat. More on BUILD #1 later, but these will be mounted on a Black/White/Black pickguard that should cause the burl flame to stand out pretty nice.

Ya don't have to have them but man they sure make things easier. Here is my guitar, edit sweet, work shop, Some guys on the Forum call it my giant cat scratch!

Then laying around I have various parts...... as well as some stashed in other places or sitting in guitar cases. BTW, the black Strat is a 1989 Deluxe American Standard Strat. These were made for a short 1 year (1989). They had Lace Sensors but no roller nut or locking tuners.

Ok Ok it is a mess. Lots of stuff all over but I know where everything is (almost!)

Jeff, that workshop looks the business and i'm jealous  but anyway is it in a spare room you have it or is it a garage or something? I see all your guitars standing up in the corner there that's like the way i have mine but i only have four! Clapton strat, Martin 00016, Fender American standard Tele and an Epiphone ES175. In the years ahead if i ever manage to come into any money then i want more! many more!

I love this kind of thread where we have knowledgeable techs who show us their working environment. This is what makes the forum interesting to me. 8)

Once you build, you won't ever buy another guitar from a "big name" brand again.

Thanks ORCRiST this is a great link! appreciate it. Lots of cool stuff to delve into here :D

No i haven't  i can't take this anymore! all you talented builders and guitar makers on here are making me feel inadequate!

No seriously it's great seeing other folks who are into building and making cool guitars, very inspiring. I'm more into the amp side of things but i could see me branching out. When i say i'm into the amp side of things i'm no amp tech, yet, but i'm learning more and more about it and find it interesting how you can change a resistor or two, or a cap, and alter the sound of your amp.

Randel the Cat says "Hi"

Hey Andy, old Fire Engine is doing well even though the coyotes got his brother a few months ago. His name was Buster and he was like 89 Cat years old. So Fire Engine is hanging out with our Golden Retriever more, which is odd, as he hates dogs.

And for ZZDoc, getting back to that swimming pool route, it can't so so bad if in the old logging/mining town of Murry Idaho, the guys there whipped out tunes on this biscuit-can guitar. Amazing what desperate guitars players can come up with to make some noise. BTW, more to come on the builds soon!

Another beautiful cat 8) That idiot who came on the forum and posted horrible stuff didn't know that the majority of us on here are animal lovers!

Jeff, that stuff covering the sides of the bench, sure enough it does look like the same material you see on cat scratch posts! is it the same?

I think that is actually Jeff's own personal scratching post.....after 4 or 5 hours rearranging tiny electronics in minuscule spaces..It relieves his tension...Oh and that is a slab..under there...
