Does the routing pattern have much of an effect on sound anyway? i don't know, there's maybe folks who say it does, but i don't think i'd be able to hear it. I mean when you're cranked into an amp will you be able to hear any difference :?:

Another question why did they stop making the strat plus's? i bought one sold it and now wish i hadn't they were cool guitars.

What's the reason for the different pattern anyway?

The only difference made is acoustically- even then, very few would notice it unless you know what the difference is through years and experience hearing countless strats unplugged. Bearing in mind, the strat was not initially designed to be a resonant guitar- it was a mass produced guitar.

For what it's worth- the difference between my plus and my american deluxe acoustically is very
small- undetectable if you don't know what to listen for. My plus is a very mellow sweet sound- slightly

There were popular mods at the time this rout was standard throughout the range- and those mods needed guitars to be further routed.. hence why the 'pool rout'

Ok, I hope we can leave the body route behind us and can move on with the project. Do not want to tie the thread up with a tone wood/no wood debate! :P But I got stuck in Denver last night, so I will be a bit delayed working on this, at least today. I have one other project I will be adding to this thread as well. Cheers! :D

Well, I think the swimming pool route fits perfectly with the theme of the guitar.

If you're quick enough, they turn up on evilbay every now and then.

BUILD #2

I mentioned that I might be doing two builds on this thread. (Well, maybe 3)... anyhow here is the body for build two (PLEASE NOTE! the swimming pool route!   For you: DrZZ!!!!  ) Anyhow, this body is from a 1996 Deluxe Strat Plus in Mystic Black. The body is near mint, as well as the neck that goes with it. It just needs a light buffing. The guitar had hang tags with it when I got it and the plastic still pickguard. Anyhow this is a unusual color. Looks black. Is black. But what Fender did was shoot the body in....well, black. BUT then when they put on the clear coat they added a small amount of green/blue pearl. Only is bright light can it be seen. I tried to capture it using flash but could not do it. Guess I will shoot some more pictures when the sun actually shines here again!

In the pict below yo can kind of make out the micro-pearl flake:

Plans are to make a BLACK on BLACK Ultra out of this. Not sure what bridge to use yet. I have a Floyd Rose II which I think I might use on the Flame build, or a Chrome American 2-point bridge or a brass based, kind of heavy one, off a Fender Koa Stratocaster. Enough rambling for now....

Nope, But did just pick up a mint Jerry Donahue Tele a few weeks ago. Those V shaped 52 necks are sooooo sweet. But as ZZDOC knows, so are the 57s on the EC Strats as well. Do not think I will ever sell my 89 EC Strat. Love the feel of that thing...

Regarding bodies. I pick up a lot of guitars, some that are really choice—dead mint or near that—stay in their cases for "abajo del camino." Others I disassemble and put into my build piles. So I usually have a stack of bodies kicking around, as well as necks and other odds and ends. Sometimes i clean house and list things on ePay if I do not think I will end up using them. Kind of a guitar junkyard out their in my guitar room!
