Cool to see that worked out for you! I'm definitely going to do the same to my warped '89 neck and see if it can be saved.

Planning to follow Jeffs' strat-egy? Good idea. Let us know how it turns out.

I don't about this Jeff, but it seems that every time I initially type out the word 'good' in a comment where you're concerned, I leave out an 'o' and have to correct the typo.

What's afoot here mate?? :?

You simply have typoisticism or misspellolism? Both are treatable and curable from what I have been told. Treatment involves long needles and sometimes a blood transfusions. It can take months or even years, but the prognosis is both propitious and auspicious. 8)

Sorry I digressed. I fear the cleverness of this company is going to turn this thread into another 'Beaubs'. I suggest we hand it back to Jeff and have him continue to enlighten us.

Doc

Ok, It is Superbowl Sunday. Just not into football...the background ambient noise of the crowd drives me nuts. So the day was spent with guitars.... Anyhow, it was a beautiful cold winter day here. The frost hung on the trees in a magical way, sparkling like small diamonds. Very surreal.

Time to finish up BUILD #2 Mystic Black Strat Plus DX wired like an Ultra. I started by using my nano-technologies wax on the body. Wiped it down really well and did a last inspection. Did i mention I am OCD? LOL  Soldered the pickguard on. Then tried to decide what bridge to use. I have a nice Fender Floyd Rose II bridge but did not have the matching Black/Red/Black back plate for it so I decided on a newer Deluxe American Strat Bridge. Same bridge use on the Plus guitars but with chrome saddles instead of the brushed.

Image

I strung it up and then started tweaking the adjustments. After I get the strings on and the guitar in tune, the first thing I do is check the rear-bridge height. One has to play with the springs some to get that right. I did NOT use a Tremsetter on this guitar, but rather went with 3 springs. One also needs to adjust the bridge posts so that they are up just enough that the bevels on the bridge "resting points" sit at the exact same height as the center part of the grove on the post. If the post is down too far the bridge will bind. If up too far it will lift the whole bridge up.

After getting the bridge set, I adjust the truss rod. One has to remember that when you first put a guitar together, you need to get it strung and kind-of-set-up and then let it sit for a week or two, so it can settle in. The wood moves some after tension is put on the whole guitar by the strings. After the truss rod is adjusted I look at the string angle and the way the saddles sit and then make a adjustment to the micro-tilt screw inside the neck plate. I play the daylights out of it for a few minutes, doing bends and stuff—tuning and retuning—and then adjusting the saddles. When I can get the strings to lay nice and low and still can bend the strings up past the 12th fret without any "fretting out" or buzzing, I then put the guitar away for a week or so, awaiting final adjustments. BTW, this plays sweet already! :D Love it and it is kind of...well .... evil looking  .... When I get the final adjustment done, I will take some really nice showcase pictures of it and post them. These are just quickies from my work bench

I love that black/red/black plastic but IMHO a solid rock maple neck would be killer on that black body. BTW....lovely scenery out there.

The Mystic Black looks killer! I liek it the way it is but agree that a maple neck would look good also. I think I've got the Black guitar featured on the blue rug and have since put a maple neck on it - looks hot!

Funny how some of my guitars get around. I do remember you getting that black Strat that was built like this one. Last week a guy emailed and sent Picts of a guitar he picked up. Looked a lot like one off my website, he thought. I checked and sure enough it was a 1997 Sonic Blue Plus that I wired like an Ultra with a dark rosewood fret board. He got it for like $900 and I had sold it for around $1250 several years ago. I would have bought it for $900! fairly rare color and still looked near mint. Was down in Califoneeiaaa. Lol! Saw another one for sale on Craigslist in Toronto Canada. Some guy emailed me about it. Then the one you bought some guy is trying to sell it as a scam off a website in UK! I contacted the website people and they did not care...... Nice seeing these popping up from time to time. Just too bad some people have to part with them.....

I'm certainly not getting rid of mine but I think I'll put the rosewood neck back on. The maple looks nice but I think an all black body, pickguard etc needs a dark neck. Keep building your 'customs' ... the world needs more of them!
