ok, ok, I know we are all waiting with eager anticipation for Mr. C to start one of his super build threads. I am humbled to ever try to do something along the lines of his craftsmanship. But, while we wait, I thought I might entertain you with a build threat of a little less caliber.

On this one I will do one, ummmm, maybe two, or even three builds, all based on the Strat Plus or Ultra model guitars. It will take a little while. BUT to start out with I want to show you the very first part! These are the tuners. Ya, like wow, right?





Some of you might remember past build threads I put on here over the last couple years. The very last one was this Flamed Ultra Strat as seen below. On this thread we will make another one similar to this, with the blow by blow details. Not sure what I am doing for pickups yet, but might ask for your help on that one….

Here is the neck I will be using on this project. It is off a 1996 Fender Ultra Strat. Odd thing is, my last build I had a 1996 neck just like this one, with the Anniversary sticker on the back. Not often one gets two necks made the same year from an Ultra. Also note the serial number. This neck starts with a "SN6". I have seen this the "SN" only a few times on Ultras. The N6 is for 1996 and is common for a serial number, but the "S" on a serial number in the 1990s was used to indicate a "signature" model Strat. Got me why it is on this neck! There are no signatures anywhere!





This neck has not been cleaned up yet. i think later on I will show you how i do that, even though it is nothing special. The frets are pretty clean on this so they will get a light polishing too. The Ultra necks are one of the few that Fender made with an Ebony fretboard. They also come with real abalone inlays which have a nice sparkle against the dark Ebony. The date on the heel reads May 14th 1996.




I expect the body in today or tomorrow. Will get some picts of that on and then start the process.... for guitar #1....

I bought an "kind of" Ultra guitar from a guy. He had the Ultra Mystic Black body with this neck loaded with 2 humbuckers and all gold plated hardware. I picked it up pretty cheap and all the stuff was new except the body and neck (which were both really clean). So I sold off all the parts, except the body and neck on ePay. So how much do I have in this neck? I would have to sit down and do the math. But I have seen them sell on ePay for around $425.... Got this one way cheaper than that. The last Ultra neck I picked up I got the same way. A mix-matched body with an Ultra neck and a bunch of weird wiring. It was parted out the same way and the neck was saved....and used on the flame Strat at the start of this thread.

I really want one. I love the ebony and would use it on that old MIJ body with a mint green guard and a set of Fralins.

Hey Mr. Blertles, Ya I have some radical ideas about this guitar and am thinking black picguard with Chrome Dome pickups and maybe a 59 Chrome Humbucker in the neck.... I used a Blue Lace in the neck, Silver Lace in the middle, and a Blue/Red Dually in the bridge in the last one:

Ok the sun has come up, even though it is a bit cold and frosty outside! I have some pictures of the "naked body" for you all to have a peek at. This body is solid Mahogany with a 1/8 inch Curly Maple matchbook cap. I know the route is non-vintage but I was not sure what I was going to do as far as pickups in this, so i wanted some room to play. I have an idea now...



The Curly Maple I think outdoes the last flame build. And the nice thing is the mahogany is seen even through the sides, so there is really nice grain on the edges of the body. The seam for the Maple top can only be seen on the inside of the body. Also $@!& at the nice Mahogany grain on the inside as well. Love this wood.
