I own a PRS SE Singlecut, and it is an unbelievable guitar for the money. You can't go wrong with anything in that line... I'm sure the Allender is a smokin' instrument.

If you want humbuckers and a good vibrato system, with a nice wide, playable neck... no, I don't think Fender makes anything like the PRS SE's. (And the gig bag is incredible.)

Whatever floats your boat mate.

If that's what you like, get it. Don't look on it as a competition between manufacturers but as a menu. You'll get fish, meat and veg options at a half decent restaurant. Even Mcdonalds do it. You'd never swear undying loyalty to beef would you. Well guitar makers don't expect you to do the same with them.

And yes, you'll get far better from Fender than PRS in my opinion. I'd rather have 'go' than 'show'. No reason you can't have both though.

I'm sure with it's slightly shorter scale length you won't have much trouble playing it.

I have an 09 Neptune's Jewell PRS Mira that I love. but the entire feel of the guitar is quite different than fender. they are totally different animals as far as sound and feel. the neck shape alone on the Mira is noticeably wider and not as rounded as a strat. but the build quality fit and finish is about the same to me, I am talking USA made though. the Mira I have was also in the same price point as the hot rod I am comparing it to. I have never even played a PRS SE model so I really couldn't comment on those.

Not a big fan of PRS guitars. Played a couple, thought about it, then said nahh. They're a bit too showy for me.

I own 2 PRSi, 2 Gibson's, and 4 Fender Strats. Each is completely different as far as feel and tone go. I love the ability to play many guitars and not have to pick one over the other. They are all good guitars to me, that's why I own them.

On the USA models they offer a wide variety of options, and if you've got the money they'll build pretty much anything you want.

But they contract with a factory in Korea to build the SE's. Those are strictly mass produced models. They don't offer any custom options on those. Your choice of whatever colors they offer -- that's pretty much it.

I'm not a big fan of birds on the fretboard.

"I'm not a big fan of birds on the fretboard."

If you look closely, the inlays on the Paul Allender are great big bats, not birds. Allender is in the "horror metal" band Cradle Of Filth. They dress up in "scary" outfits and wear "scary" makeup, so he wanted "scary" bats.

I think they're more silly than scary and I could well understand if you're even less of a fan of bat inlays than bird inlays.

I used to own a PRS Custom 22 and it was a fine guitar but it certainly was no Fender by any means. There really is no substitute for a good Fender. If you feel the need to get a PRS or something different then go ahead but the one thing you can never do is think of your PRS as an "upgrade" from a Fender because they are not even close to being the same animal. As far as a PRS being more "advanced"? There are times when you can advance in technology without advancing in usefulness. A few years ago I came to a point in life where I wanted to simplify my gear and reduce the collection to only the essentials. The question became, what do I really need and what can go? I sold the PRS (along with a few others) and kept some Fenders.

Guitars can and will always come and go due to many
reasons (theft, etc) but nobody can steal your ability
to play music on them.

Play on!
