I have a 93/94 Strat whos' frets have seen their last days. Now I can get new fret wire put but I am unsure of the cost. That got me to thinking about having a new neck put on. Good Idea or Bad One? I only thought about this because the current neck is a C or maybe flatter. I am a huge fan of the baseball bat U neck and would love to have one. But........ they do seem a bit pricy and I am not sure if it would even fit on the body of a Strat that had a C??? Can this be done and is it worth the extra $$$$? Thanks to all Replies.

Sure. a new neck can be fit to your guitar.

The price of a quality neck would equal the cost of refretting.

If I had a luthier I trusted, I would go with refretting (to keep the guitar more original).

A luthier could also tell you whether or not a refretting is actually required; you might be able to get by with a leveling/recrowning.

I've done both several times., both have advantages depending onb the neck that needs a refret/ replacement. Unless you want a totally different neck on there; like you have a rosewood and want maple, or you just don't like it; get it refret. I play all replacement necks, but thats because theyre either builds, or on one, I had a twist in the original.
If you can keep the original neck with the guitar, thats always the best choice IMO. And making it feel 'fuller' in your hand can be done with a refret, we do it all the time. Just tell whoever is doing the refret that you want to use teller frets. You don't have to go from small vintage size to extra jumbo, you could go to 6105's, tall/ narrow. As an example. Just go up a size, and it will feel like a fatter profile.
