Doing some reading and get the impression that most do not like the Highway One. I have one, it is not my favorite it is just Ok. So in short what are the faults of the Highway One. Like I said it is not my favorite, but am interested and learning what others know or have experienced with the Highway One that I may not have.

Welcome to the Forum!

Ive found the feedback on them to be very positive, with almost no negative. I personally love them, I have 5 different Highway One models.

Out of curiosity, what do you dislike about yours?

Cheers,

T

I've played several and most of them have been very good, some have been excellent and some others have stunk. Same goes with most any other guitar but I think the Highway 1 suffers a little from snobbery (like Les Paul Studios) and some people just really don't dig the matt paint finish.
Also, some folk don't like the big headstock (CBS era stigma) - but I love it!

A friend of mine bought one earlier this year and changed the pickups, put on a really funky pick guard and set that guitar up like a man possessed! It looked cool, it sounded great and was one of the best playing Strats I've ever tried out.

The only negative I've noticed is that sometimes the rosewood Fender use on on some of the finger boards is pretty low quality. Not all! But I think that's disappointing to see on any American made instrument.

I own the ENTIRE color spectrum of the Fender Highway One Stratocaster HSS series.
(yes...I'm THAT sick!!)

I will not lie and say that these guitars, right off the shelf, are amazing.....they're NOT!
The stock pickups, tuners, and saddles are all cheap crappola!
The neck and body ARE well made, extremely comfortable and worthy of upgraded components.
As I've mentioned in another post....Fender is a BUSINESS....whose purpose is to make a profit. An under $1000.00 American made Fender instrument IS NOT going to contain premium components!

I've upgraded ALL my Highways.....and I can honestly say....after the 'improvements' I've made....they are the finest guitars I've owned to date! (playing 25+years)

I have NO regrets about my rather nutty aquisition pattern......I have a bunch of GREAT guitars now!!
My only regret:...........the cancellation of the series..................... :( :( :(

Dude, your complete collection of the series ain't gonna regret the cancellation one iota! You've got a full run of a discontinued range of Fender USA guitars. Very cool!!

As I said earlier,"it is not one of my favorites" . I am having Dave Allen @ dallenpickups make a new pick guard with Johnny Blades and make the 2nd tone knob a push push to give me a 7 way like a Player Deluxe. I am sure after these Mods I will play it more. Again I had read elsewhere in the Forums that some people just do not like the Highway One. I like it enough to spend money on it.

I agree with this. We hear very little negatives.

The only thing I didn't like about my Highway One was the satin finish.
The lower-line hardware hasn't given me any problems (knock on wood).

I have owned one for several years now. I absolutely love mine. Stock, it is a great guitar, but I have to admit that I have done a lot of modifications to mine. I now have an awesome workhoarse of a guitar. Mine went from this
Image
to this, my number 1 of my collection
Image Image Image

Modifications done are:

1. Fender/Schaller tuners
2. Dimarzio Super Distortion Bridge Pickup
3. Graph Tech saddles
4. Black Pickup covers on the single coils (still stock, love the tone on those)\
5. "F" neck plate
6. Pearl Pickguard
7. 500k Volume Pot
8. Dunlop Strap Locks
9. Shined the whole guitar with Fender/Miguier guitar polish for that little luster on the matte finish.

VERY NICE - You must be a very proud daddy!

Is that a natural one (2nd one in from the end on the right)? I've never seen one of those in person but I have to say I think that's my favourite and I bet it's sweet as with the satin finish.

Great collection and thanks for sharing the pics :D

Great job, man!

The mods you've made have really brought that guitar to life.

In the catalogue that particular finish was called AMBER.
She is one of my favorites, and sounds amazing!

Yep....I'm quite fond of my borderline obsessive compulsive, somewhat psychotic fondness for this series!

I have a dozen guitars. My Highway 1 Strat and Tele are the guitars that I log most of my playing hours on. About 5 yrs ago, I bought the guitar I've always wanted - a American Series Strat in 3-color sunburst with a maple fingerboard - but it stays in the case most of the time because the Highway just calls to me.
