Ive been offered a 1978 Natural finish (black scratchplate etc) Strat for £750. Only downside is that it needs a complete refret and is a fairly heavy stratocaster.

Just wondering what it might be worth with the refret (cost about £180)? Ive had it apart and everything looks authentic.

Here in the colonies, $2200 to @2500 -- assuming 100% originality with its HSC. The late '70s Strats were very erratic when it came to weight......the heavier the guitar, the less demand there is for it.

Try offering the seller £600 because you are going to have to spend some money on the refret.

I had a 78 Ash bodied Strat that weighed in at about 11 lbs.,it was by far the heaviest guitar that I ever played but it sounded incredible. That guitar sustained like Steinway Concert Grand piano and the action was really really close all the way up the neck. Sadly I had to get rid of the guitar as it was too heavy to play unless you were sitting-and who wants to sit during a gig?I'd offer 600 for it considering the work that has to be done on it and be sure that you weigh it and if you decide to get it buy the widest strap that you can get.
