Before you button down the new pickguard, be sure none of the wiring is kinked or ends up trapped between the pickguard (or shield, if so equipped) and the body. Pinched wiring is known to cause conductivity problems between the pickups, the switch, and the pots.

Extreme string-height changes may require a slight intonation adjustment so be prepared for that. Unless you're switching to a heavier-gauge string, your neck relief should remain the same.
