For $500 I hope they dip it in gold. Id try to stay away from Am deluxe necks. I don't know about the brand new ones, but American Deluxes come into the shop with twisted necks more than any other models. Actually there were around 6-7 Strats that came in w/ that problem, at least the ones that were too new for that to be an issue, all but one were American deluxes, at least the one that came in while I was at the shop. I'm pretty sure most of the ones that nothing could be fixed with a refret or anything like that were all replaced by Fender. But I'm pretty sure any place you could by a fender neck are going to replace anything like that.

I think the block or trap inlays look wrong on a strat. Yes the guitar will be unique, but it won't look like a strat. Ebony fretboard with MOP dot inlays would be awesome on a black cherry flame body.

I kind of want a Strat with binding on the neck.

Not a big fan of block inlays on Strat necks RK. Have you thought about an HSS configuration with a coil tap for the pickups? Also might want to consider black hardware with the green body and maple neck. :)

Again, typos. I meant to say that while Fender replaced the necks, any other company that sells Fender necks, but aren't affiliated with Fender probably wouldn't replace any problem necks. Especially if the issue doesn't show up until a while after they ship it to you. Regardless, any neck you get should be checked out before you go and shoot it with finish.

After researching, looking, creating, building the Warmoth site I have decided to only build a new pickguard from scratch. I just couldn't see spending arounf $900 for a neck and body alone.

So new plan is to buy a black Blacktop Floyd Rose and build a HSH puckguard. The plan is to but a Pearly Gates in the bridge, a Seymour reverse wound middle, and a 59 neck.

$900?!?! What did you price out for a neck?? I didn't think if you pulled the wood out of a 1500 year old castle it would cost that much. Maybe you're shooting a little high. You should be able to pick up a quarter sawn neck, w/whatever profile you want for a couple hundred.

The problem with Fender is the necks. I don't think you'll ever find a Fender neck to your specifications.

Your right. If I was going to build a guitar, that is exactly the specs I'd want. Some day I might even throw down the money for it...but for playing in garage-type bands just for fun, I think I can get away with a Blacktop with one hellova custom build pickguard and be just as happy. I was pretty happy with the playabilty of my previous Blacktop, I just used it as a trade in for my American Standard.

I had the chance to speak at length with Paul Waller, when he was in NY with the Road Show last June, and queried him in the matter of my dissatisfaction w/the rosewood on maple/V-neck I had ordered for a custom shop guitar I had had built several years ago. i had specified a Clapton neck carve and it wasn't quite right. He was of the opinion that the board likely added additional front to back thickness, particularly at the shoulders, that a solid maple neck would not have suffered. Hence, the recommendation herein to have a v-neck cut to specs under which you have full control made sense. However your departure from that plan may or may not matter depending upon your final choice of fretboard.

I read too fast, didn't see the body, but half the body price is the finish you chose, which I would never let them do it, they use way too much and charge a lot. I'm lucky that we have a finish station at the shop, so I could use nitrocellulous finish & apply it how I want. Obviously not everyone has that luxury, but I'm confident you could talk a local auto body shop to do it inexpensively and well. Some may do it just so they can do it and get the experience, though a burst may be difficult.
I've delt w/ Warmoth for a few years now, not just from my build. I can say that the ONLY reason I went with them is the quality, it definitely wasn't customer service. They're easily the most arrogant, self important tone deaf (figuritively) company I deal with. The first neck I ordered I wanted to cancel and get something available when after a week after I ordered it I found it wouldn't be shipped for over 2 months. They responded by telling me if I did, they would charge me a $45 cancellation fee, and 25% restocking fee, on something they hadn't even started yet. I was steaming, and actually now that I'm writing about it I'm starting to steam again. This was obviously something just to keep me from cancelling, which was really, at least buisness wise, because I was just going to get something they had in the showcase. Even the neck I ordered, which I stayed with, wouldn't have been an issue because they thing that was different from a typical order was that I ordered it wothout a profile. I ordered it that way so I could put the profile in myself. So its not like they would be stuck holding the bag; it was just a quarter sawn 1-piece neck, hardly something difficult to sell & they could have put any profile in they wanted. I've never dealt with them for myself, but have for other people's builds, and found that it wasn't a fluke, they were just as bad to deal with afterward. But, they do make a solid product, but I've worked with All-Parts necks/bodies & never had any problem with them.
