Hello all. I'm debating on building my own partscaster and would like the use the body from a 62 vr hot rod and a neck from an fairly new American standard. Are the width and depth of the neck pocket on the 62 body the same as an American standard?
I know the the on the 62 hot rod is big and chunky neck. To big for me or I would bought the one I tried in my local shop saturday. But is the chunkyness just down to the carve of the neck or is the butt of the neck also deeper?
I'm hoping that a AM STD neck will slot straight in without the need for shims etc to raise it.
Thanks in advance.

Get every neck you can and test it.

Any Fender Stratocaster neck should drop right in to your neck pocket. This being said, you may have to drill some new mounting holes in the neck. The proper way would be to drill out the old holes, glue in some hardwood dowels, then drill the mounting holes you will need for this new union of body and neck! If the new holes won't be too near the old holes, then you dont "have" to dowel the holes if you don't want!

I took a '01 EC Strat neck and attached it to a '07 Hwy1 body and everything turned out just fine.

Deal  I was gutted tbh that I didn't get on with the neck. Back of of my hand was starting to feel it after about half hour. I play alot with my thumb over the top and just couldn't get properly comfy with. But stunning guitar though. Hence the need to puck up a body from one and swap the neck. And probably go for some bareknuckle Irish tours for pups.

personally I love the hot rod neck, but I have very large hands :? you could also sell the neck on eBay and probably make money. the 62 necks are listed at $674.99 and up. and a new american standard is between $400 and $500. you would also have some left over for the BKP. I like the apache and mothers milk the most

also the hot rod is built like a tank! the neck pockets are matched up with the neck really well on them. so a new neck might not fit quite as tight as the origional. I could barely get mine out to adjust the truss rod and there wasn't even paint in the pocket
