I am looking at a new git and am looking at strats. I have a fender hot rod deluxe amp and am wondering what works best with that amp. I am looking for a jimi hendrix/ john mayer tone is that possible?

If you're into the Meyer/Hendrix type tones you'll probably want an SSS Strat instead of an HSS since that's what they play/played. The current American Deluxes are very nice.

It really depends on your pocketbook. I love the Highway 1 (although getting hard to find new now), American Special, American Standard, American Deluxe, Lone Star, and other MIM Deluxe's. The new Road Worn guitars are worth a look at if can stand some relicing. I say go play as many models in your price range and see which one you prefer.

As far as HSS models, some people think the humbucker has a thick sound that some people do not like. Play around with that as well...SSS vs. HSS.

I'm wondering if it's possible to get Hendrix tone from American Standard Strat + CS single coils. Or is it better to buy Custom Shop Strat?

Hendrix just used a stock strat .The tone is in how they applied it to the strings. He had a Marshall amp and used a few choice pedals.

Any decent Strat will get the job done.

If you want NICE, I recommend the Custom Shop team-built models.
These are hand built by skilled people to a very high standard.
There are no mass production methods used and it shows in final result. The fit and finish is superb.

The Custom Classic can still be bought new for under 2 grand, it depends on how nice you want it.
