Hi guys,

I have a fender blacktop strat, when I screw on the tremolo bar, if I screw it on all the way until tight, it will stop in the area where I need to pick/strum and the bar will hit the volume knobs because they are kinda bulky. But if I loosen it until it doesn't hit the knobs, it because very loose and just dangles around since it dangles around, it just keeps hitting the cable if the guitar is moving...

Is this normal or do I just not how to fit the bar in normally....

Thanks again...

You need to get the tremolo spring that goes in the hole. Then screw in the tremolo and put where you want it and it will stay in place. You can get them at Guitar center.

Also, you may have to tweak your bar....I don't know how many tremolo arms I have that all have different degrees of bends in them. Find one that fits and clears the knobs better, or try heating and bending the stock bar (not while installed in the guitar of course!)

I used the springs for years but heard a lot of stories of block threads getting bunged by them, so I stopped.

I wrap the threads of my term arm in a few turns of plumber's Teflon tape. Gives it enough bite to stay in place. Not as positive as the spring, and you do have to replace it now and again... but it won't wreck the threads.
